Going to try to break off contract
I had this alarm installed in December of 2006. I have had some problems and a few events that I think should warrant the breaking of the contract.
The first happened in March/April of 2007. I was at work when I got a call from dispatch that said my alarm was going off and they wanted to know if I wanted to police to be called. I asked them what had been triggered to set off the alarm, a door open, window broke, or motion. I was told to hold on and the line was disconnected. I called back and was on hold for almost 20 minutes. In this time, I left work, drove to within 2 blocks of my house before the person in dispatch came back on and said he was still checking. He never did figure out what triggered the alarm. This I was told was going to be dealt with internally. No signs of entry were found and nothing was missing.
On November 29th, I was at the house, and in a rush to leave for the airport I set off the alarm. It went off for about 20 seconds before I could get it to stop. I reset the alarm and knew everything was fine and waited for your call center to call. No call was received. The number on file is my cell phone. I also called my second on the contact list to let him know about it if you called him instead. Nobody got a call.
I have a cell unit for the alarm since I do not have a home telephone line. said that the unit once a month calls home to you and verifies that it is still working. He informed me that mine hasn’t called home since August 26th. For 3 months my alarm has not been monitored. I asked if they knew about it and they said they have no way to get a list of alarms that are not reporting. This also is a problem. I went to the house on 12/8 and purposely set the alarm off. It screamed for about 40 seconds before I turned it off and waited for your call. Never came. I called dispatch 10 minutes later and they had no record of the alarm going off.
After all the problems I have had and the lack of monitoring, I think I have grounds to break from the 3 year contract early. I am not happy with the level of service I have received or the response and attitudes from your staff.
Duped into switching service
I was contacted by Central Security Group on 4/14/09. They led me to believe they were only a different unit of ADT monitoring out of Oklahoma and that my response time would be better. Then on 4/16/09 the technican came by and, using ADT’s equipment, reprogrammed my system. I found out later from ADT that I had been tricked into switching.
Haven't had any problems here
I’ve read some of the issues people had had with this alarm company, I honestly have to say that I haven’t had any problems. I knew first hand that it was a three year contract, the installer explained in detailed how to use the system and thankfully didn’t left me a mess. On a false alarm, cops responded very quickly and CSG responded withing the first 2 minutes. Now I’ll be trying to cancel, let’s hope I don’t encounter the same problems some of you had, I really don’t have the patience and that collection BS doesn’t fly with me. I’m cancelling because I found a company in Houston that offers it at $16.95 using my cellphone, and CSG can’t match the price.
Customer service is nonexistent
Make sure if you sign up with this security system company you check the permit costs with your city first. The representative told me that my city did not charge for a permit. Turns out they did. $25… no big deal right? But the fact that they would not refund a measly $25 even though it was their fault that their list was not updated… just made me mad. Oh and good luck trying to talk to their customer service people. I waited like 3 wks before someone even called me back… of course she wasnt much help when she did finally call.
This company is a huge headache
All comments are similar, so is mine. An honest attempt to cancel service. Company didn’t receive letters we wrote for cancel request, etc. Then they conveniently get the letters after the auto renewal kicks in. I actually paid the 32.99 mo for several months after the unit wasn’t functioning just to keep these guys off my back. They wouldn’t do a service call just to get everything back to working unless we paid the balance that kicked in after the auto renewal. Long story short, I am mailing a check to their debt collector who has been continually threatening to put a lien on my home. $303.75 is worth it just to get away from this headache.
Not happy with their services
This is the third alarm company I have used, and by far the worst. I never signed a contract with this company, they bought out the company I signed with. When I tried to cancel they told me the same line everyone else on here is saying. This is a vary shady dishonest company, and I will never use or recommend them ever. They did however have a fast call back when the alarm went off.
This company is completely indecent
This is the most dishonest and worst alarm company in existance!!!!!!!
The installers are very inexperienced and customer service is pathetic. The installers placed the main control panel on the outside wall of a bathroom I was remodeling when there was a closet not more than 2 feet away. They left wires hanging down from the ceiling and when called back to move the thing they destroyed the circuit board of the system and my computer modem. They then had the nerve to try and charge me for the replacement of the circuit board the tech. destroyed and the service call to come back and replace it. This also all happened in the first 90 day period which all service to the system is supposed to be warrantied and free.
When I informed them that I was not paying for their inexperience they decided to have their collection department call everyone on our contact list and inform them that we are deadbeats that will not pay our bills and had the nerve to ask them if they could pay it. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! They then started calling my wifes employer for the same reason.
They are very, very rude and the supervisors, if you are lucky enough to get to speak to one or even get their voicemail, will not return phone calls. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!
Know what you are doing
Anyone buying an alarm system, needs to realize the system is only as good as the company installing it.
Since CSG only answers the alarms and dispatches, they are not fully responsible for what company you choose to install it. There a several dealerships ADT CSG ETC and most installation companies install for many Service providers. Advice, learn to use your system so that the only time police come is because someone is breaking in, and choose a good installer. Quit blaming the middle man.
Oh yeah read everybodies contracts, they all make you sign up for another year after the contract unless you cancel before the last month, blame your sales rep for not reading the whole contract to you.
Good luck and choose wisely, RATE / Installer / Sale rep knowledge = good alarm system.
The best alarm company there is
All major alarm companies contracts are auto renewal. Read before you sign. These guys are the best I’ve had. I have been with 3 other providers in the past. In reading these reviews you really see how many idiots are really out there.
You need to avoid CSG
I have had a contract to install and monitor a house alarm system with this group for five months.
They did not install the alarm system reliably (magnets on both front and back doors are not aligned correctly, resulting in occasional setting off the alarm). As a result, I have already had two false alarms while gone from the house.
Instead of backing up their work, they are asking for a high service call fee. Further, their agent neglected to explain at the time of installation that the community we live in requires a permit to operate their system. As a result, I am liable to a hefty fine for the police responding to one of the false alarms.
When I called CSG, their receptionist/operator was pleasant but unable to help. She kept referring me to an absent customer service supervisor who never returned the calls. When I finally got through to someone, she was brusque, argumentative and unhelpful. The only option for the contract was for a three year period. Being stuck with these people for three years with no way out is like indentured servitude.
I would under no circumstances recommend this service.
People need to read their contracts
I have had CSG for 18 months now and have only had 1 problem with the system, a contact fell off my back door about 6 months ago, I called the company and they sent out a tech 2 days later and it was fixed. Fast response time. I got a great deal on the system; I paid 99.00 bucks for a wireless system plus two key-phobs and $32.95 a month for the monitoring.
I have read some of the other reviews stating that CSG is a shady company because they did not know about the renewal clause, this is not the companies fault, but the subscribers for not reading the contract in full and or understanding the terms by which he or she was agreeing to. My sales rep. was very informative on the fact that there was a 3 year contract, with a renewal clause built in that could be canceled with a 30 day notice and I had shopped around anyways before deciding to go with this company and came to find out that this is a common practice in the alarm industry, “so most alarm companies must be shady?”
As for service, and a quality system, plus a great monitoring rate that includes warranty, CSG gets my number 1 vote and recommendation. If you don’t like CSG than I would recommend you stay far away from ADT and Brinks because those guys are the real crooks, they will sell you the same equipment and same type of monitoring service at a premium price and tell you it’s better and much more expensive, do your homework and good luck.
Happy with the quick response
A few weeks ago my son accidentaly set off our alarm system. I had the police out at my house in what seemed to be about 5-10 minutes. I have heard about companies that take that long before they even call you, I was pleasantly suprised about the quick response.
Trying to get away from CSG
Me and my wife are currently going through a divorce and along with that a move to a new location along with our 2 year old daughter. We remain close freinds but this is a very hard time for our family.
With that background we have sold our house in the beginning of September and have been attempting to cancel our service with Central Security Group for almost a month now. The usual line once you have said you need to cancel is “Our Service or managers lines are busy right right now can we call you back?” If you say yes then they never call back…wait a week called again and this time got someone in the correct department they said “I will look over your account and once everything is in order ill call you back” BIG suprise no call back…..This last time I spoke with someone that said they were going to email me “Cancellation Request” …Its been several hours and SUPRISE no cancellation request. I called back again to verify the email had been sent and lo and behold “our lines are busy right now” I told them ill call back in 10 minutes…….Called back and explained what I was going through and she said she would try one more time. She transfered me to a rep that looked up my account information in a matter of 20-30 seconds and told me my contract was in force through June 2009!!!
I informed her that I was not informed of this auto renew feature and her reply was “Read what you sign”. I have asked for a copy of my signed contract along with the cancellation letter I am supposed to sign and will have to see if Im on the hook for the remainder and if I am look for any type of recourse that I may be able to take for them not disclosing the renewal.
This is really just a bad company
Just a bad alarm company!!! Our home was badly damaged during Hurricane Ike. Our phone lines have not worked since Sept 13 and I have tried in vain to cancel the last two quarters of our three year contract since we can not live in the house and they can not monitor the house because we have no phone. I have called for six consecutive days and I receive the same message. You are under contract – I will need a manager to call you back. No one ever calls back. Very frustrating. Do not use this company under any circumstance.
Nothing has been resolved. The company has referred me to a collection agency. I prefer taking this to small claims court and hope to file a class action lawsuit for other consumers who have been treated unfairly.
