My wife and I moved into our home in Dec 2005 and as part of the purchase agreement the previous owners agreed to transfer the existing security system over to us for a period of six months.

After that time lapsed we contacted the existing service and made several attempts to make final arrangements to change the service over to our names.  After a month of being jerked around we all of a sudden received a phone call from Vector inquiring if we would be interested in their security system.  After talking to a service representative we had the existing service and equipment transferred to our names.  A rather smooth process and didn't involve any new equipment needing to be added.

Initially, the service was first rate but after a year or so we began to get false alarms due to an old battery.  It took almost another month to have a technician come out and replace the battery.  When we asked the technician why it took so long to have the battery replaced, we were told that there were constant internal scheduling difficulties.  From that period until we had a new alarm system installed six weeks ago we heard nothing from them. Not a phone call or email asking if we were happy with the service or if we might be interested in upgrading our system.  This is one of main reasons why we got our new system merely because of new "buttons and whistles" that were available.  We never thought to contact Vector and find out what our contractual obligations were.

After our new system was installed I called Vector and notified them we had disconnected their service and had a new service installed.  That was when I found out we were going to be subjected to paying the remaining balance of our three year contract, $360.00.  I must admit after almost five years I totally forgot about the contract being automatically renewed without any action being required on our part.  When I asked the customer service representative why customers were not notified in advance of a pending renewal I was told that their "system" was not able to perform that type of function. Nor was it possible to even have a post card mailed out notifying customers of pending contract renewal.

It just seems to me that if any service/company was worth their weight and was concerned about their customers this would something that would be a matter-of-fact.  I consider this issue a "lesson learned", and now make every effort to properly manage my affairs since I can't depend on a company who is providing a service to properly manage theirs.
