Avoid Vector! We bought a new house in Chesapeake, VA and were immediately hounded by a Vector salesman every couple of days.
Even though we paid $850 to have our house prewired for security, the salesman told me they would have to install a wireless system, but they would do it for free with a 3 year monitoring contract. After getting quotes from ADT and Brinks, we reluctantly chose Vector for the free installation.
Almost immediately, we had problems with false alarms and could not get service. I paid several hundred dollars in false alarm fines before they finally got out to fix our system. We put up with it for 3 years, even with hassles when we needed service.
After 1 year, we were notified of a rate increase. The salesman never told me about that, but they did remind me that it's included in our contract. We found it in the fine print. I've had it with Vector and have several friends who are very happy with Brinks. We recently had a Brinks system installed and they used our prewire to install a hard-wired system that I believe is more reliable than a wireless system. The 3 year contract with Brinks says that the rate is guaranteed for 3 years, so no surprises.
