Customer Reviews For Vector Security:
(Added Jan 20/12) This is to inform vector security how unpleased I am with the service thats been provided. I purchased my system in 2007 and it stop working in 2009. The service guy came out and replaced the battery and the very next day it stopped working again. So since 2009 I've been paying every month for a system that hasn't worked in in 2yrs. Don't worry I realize I'm the dummie for doing it. But guess what? So as of this e-mail I'm ending my relationship with Vector. I'll be better served protecting myself with a baseball bat and a stun gun........Peace
(Added Jan 19/12) Vector Security is HORRIBLE! I cannot wait until my contract is up. Their customer service is TERRIBLE, their technicians are NOT knowledgeable. I had security cameras installed into my home and they do not work. Each camera cost me over $500 and they do not work. They claimed it was due to my low signal from my router. However, my router operates my phone, cable and internet and all of those work fine. They refused to give me a refund for their faulty equipment. The supervisors failed to return my numerous calls and they claim they do not have a complaints department. They were rude and to date have failed to fix my system's issues. I would NOT recommend them to anyone.
(Added Jan 16/12) Vector security is not military friendly.  In 2007 I purchased a home and got a home security system with Vector.  In 2010 I moved under PCS orders and they refused to release me from my contract saying I owed them 750$.  I could not take the system with me because I was renting a house in VA.  I called again today after consulting my lawyers on base and Vector still will not release me from my contract and will not allow me to speak with anyone else on the matter.  The service tech was extremely rude and said "You joined the military right?  You were aware you could get orders to move right"?  This is not the type of service I expect from an American company.
(Added Jan 10/12) I agree with the comments as written on this site. We had (and I stress the word "HAD".  I have to say that the relationship did start out ok (not perfect - when we originally assumed the system (we purchased the house with the system already installed), they sent a salesperson out to try to convince us to upgrade the panels...(read the whole review)
(Added Jan 9/12) Vector installed my alarm system in mid-September 2011.  I found out on December 21st that the internal motion sensors did not work.  They probably never worked since installation.  This is a serious security compromise, since a knowledgeable burglar can enter almost any house with just window and door sensors...(read the whole review)
(Added Dec 19/11) Vector could use improvement. Our house was built 4 years ago, we recently found out 1) one window on the first floor was NOT wired, and 2) one piece of equipment was missing such that when we were on the internet, the alarm won't work. A few weeks ago, one senor turned bad, they REFUSED to come out to fix it citing we didn't report the issue properly and they would not come out without charging us or without a maintenance in their hands first. We are not happy with their services and they now lost their business. It turned out all they need to do was to take a short trip and put in a wireless replacement sensor. Obviously, it is more about the people they employ as oppose to the company itself. In our case, it was the manager and employee at the Pennsylvania customer service office who lost the company business.
(Added Dec 14/11) These people who have listed these negative reviews on Vector Security must be employed by other alarm companies. As a former ADT customer for many years, I can tell you firsthand that Vector is far and above a much better alarm company both in quality and customer assistance.  I am in the real estate business and have many rental properties all currently being monitored by Vector.  These same properties for the whole were previously monitored by ADT and before that Brinks.  At the time when I switched these properties over to Vector two years ago not ONE of the ADT systems were even working.  I had finally given up on trying to deal with ADT and get these systems repaired.  I even considered legal action because of the poor service I was receiving.  Over and over again, there were missed appointments and ridiculous charges .  I have never been less satisfied with any purchases I have made in my lifetime as I was with ADT.  I have had only two issues with a couple of my Vector Systems and both of those were my fault.  In each case, Vector had representatives there within two days and both problems were fixed at no charge to me.  I am extremely pleased with my Vector purchases and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone.
(Added Nov 18/11) Montitoring was satisfactory. Cancelling is a nightmare.  If you fail to send written notice within 30 days of your 3yr contract close the contract will auto-renew for another 3yrs. Sound like a rip off?  Thats because it is.  If you try to cancel within a contract with military orders you have to jump through hoops trying to get a hold of the right person in the right department in the right region.  It's absurd.  I would recommend another company with better customer service and less hassle.
(Added Nov 18/11) We have been customers with Vector Security for approximately 9 years at two homes.  We are shocked to read all of the negative commentary on this review site.  We have never had any issues, either with equipment or monitoring.  After reading complaints posted here, we just tested our system for response time from their central station and it was under 1 minute! That is not even remotely close to extremely long response times from other companies we used.  We cannot praise Vector Security enough and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. In fact we have on several occasions and others have been just as pleased with them for years!
(Added Oct 16/11) I am currently being monitored by Vector.  Like most of the review submitted, I too have had my issues.  My alarm have been set off accidently several time and "NO" call from the monitoring center.  I once left out of my garage too late, the alarm sounded. I entered; turned it off and waited for the call, NO call to my suprise.  I called Vector and was told, they had no idea the alarm was going off. STRIKE ONE. I had the alarm set on NO delay.  The back door was opened and "NOTHING" happened.  NO sound, again, Vector had no clue the alarm was going off.  STRIKE TWO.  I was told by the representative I could move the system with no problems or risk.  NOT!!  I brought a new home, a tech came out unhooked the system from the old home, installed it at the new home.  I had the system over 3 years at the old home.  I called to have Vector remove the system and close the account.  I was told that I have a NEW CONTRACT because when I moved I started a new contract.  I was told that the customer will either have to pay to move the system or start a new contract.  Soooo, since I didn't pay, mind you, I wasn't told I had either option, I was forced into a new contract.  RIP OFF
(Added Oct 16/11) Although my experience with Vector has been, so far, relatively ok I don't think I would do business with them again. They use pushy door to door salesmen who employ probably the dumbest, most ridiculous, sales pitches I have ever seen.  They show up with a sign asking if you can"help them out by letting them leave a Vector Security sign on your property"...(read the whole review)
(Added Oct 14/11) I had service through Vector for over 5 years and had several problems with my system...mostly having to do with the battery back up system never working right and the alarm not resetting itself properly. I got so aggrevated the last time we had an electrical outage and my system continually screeched for 2 days that I completely unplugged my system.  I never got a call from them asking if there was a problem or if I was OK (which also happened several times when the alarm was mistakenly tripped).  I ended up calling them a week later and cancelling my service and asking for a refund of the 41 days I had already prepaid.  Instead, almost a month later I got a refund for 11 days because they say "there is a 30 day processing period".  It's bad enough that it takes 30 days to process a refund, by how dare they reduce my refund for the amount of time it takes them to do the paperwork!!!  Quite ridiculous and unfair!!  Be wise, not only do they charge way too much for their monitoring services, but their service is not very good and their customer service stinks -- choose someone else!
(Added Oct 14/11) Vector security is absolutely the worse security company ever! I am in the military and PCSd to another country and they still want me to pay for a service that I am NOT using nor family. So please beware military personnel. You have been warned. They are so money hungry! The sub contractor told me it was a 2 year contract and by me being in the military it would be NO problem cancelling the service without paying a fee since i was in the service! Was I misinformed or what. So President of Vector or CEO this needs to be re-looked for individuals in the service. This will potentially lose several VALUED customers. Trust me!
(Added Oct 3/11) If you get a Vector security system you may get robbed two times. The first time for sure, is when you get the system. You pay for them to monitor you system but they do not. My system is down and I did not receive any calls about it. I was told when they put in the system that if anything was wrong it would show up at the monitoring station and they would call me even if a battery was low. When you have any problem with it, you will be lucky to see a repairman in a week. My system went down on a Thursday after about five calls to customer service, I finally got a time that they may be out to check it, on the next Wednesday. The customer service is no help at all. I have talk to supervisors and they will not help you at all, unless you want to pay them for a faster service.
(Added Oct 3/11) My system has been down for two days and I have called the company over five times and the last time I called I talk to a supervisor and was told that it would be about five more days before anyone could look at it. The control panel says "File system is corrupted. System not working". If they monitored the system they would know that it was not working. I thank I am paying for a service that I am not getting. When I talk to the service repair center they act like it was my problem and they did not care. The system is only five months old. I would not use this company again until some BIG changes were made in the customer service area.
(Added Sep 23/11) We have had this service for 5 years, no one ever explained to us we need to have it registered with the local police in order to not be charged for false alarms.  If your system is registered you are allowed up to 3 false alarms each year.  So although frustrated I spoke with the local police department and they suggested that I get the log from Vector and fax it to them and they could possible have the fee reimbursed.  I called Vector to have them fax the log to me...but to my surprise they want to charge me a $25.00 fee.  Now mind you I was not informed by Vector to register the system with the police department and now I'm calling so that I could get the $100.00 fee reimbursed!  You would think they want me to get that $100.00 fee back... No customer service!  Beware!!!
(Added Sep 20/11) My grandparents purchased Vector Security for their home and have had problems within the first week of purchasing the standard package, that's the 3 door sensors with the control panel (CP), The technicians who installed it were part of Vector Security and gave their names and one of the gentleman even gave their number to my grandmother...(read the whole review)
(Added Sep 19/11) I was completely misinformed about this system, the monthly amount to pay and that I could cancel at any time!  I have not even ONE time set this alarm; but for four days straight, the alarm went off. I now have to keep my front door ajar; so it won't go off again!!! I called the tech and the company. I have asked to speak to the president of the company; to no avasil. The fourth day I called (while the alarm was going off) I was told they had "no indication that my alarm was going off"!!! I stuck my cell phone back into the house for them to hear it!!! I was told "we have no way to stop the alarm. maybe a tech can come by and check the system.". No one has come here!! I was told two days ago that a manager would contact me within 24 hours. I have not heard from anyone as of yet!!!  I told them since this entire thing had been misrepresented to me and I have never used it, that I want it out of my house!!!!!! To which I was told it would cost me $2,600.00 some odd dollars for them to do that; because I would have to pay them to the end of the contract (that I was dupped into signing)!!!!!  I am 70 years old (nearly 71) on a fixed income and I feel they have ripped me off and are trying to continue doing so.  I told them I am calling my bank and stop them from taking money from my account; to which I was told then they would take measures to get their money. As I told them, "You won't get anything; because I'm broke!!!!  The better business bureau needs to take these people into account for their theifery!!!!!!
(Added Sep 18/11) the worst alarm company they charged me 2,000 i have pcs move and i called them like 20 times and always they said the guy who is in charge for my account was in another call n he will called me back but he didnt call me back then i called again and they request me sent my orders to cancelled with out charge n i received a letter a week ago for them charging me 2000 dollars for cancell my contract n was reported for my credit this company is terrible, and the workers too
(Added Aug 18/11) I just spent three hours dealing with the police in my area because of the horrible harrassing tactics of the Vector door to door sales people who have been working my neighborhood for the last two weeks.  An individual came to my door three times today.  The last time, he opened my screen door, and jiggled the interior door handle before banging on it.  When I saw his Logo shirt, I told him I was not interested in buying anything,  The only way I knew where he was from was because of the shirt.  He had his badge turned backwards, did not introduce himself or tell me where he was from.  He kept trying to get me to talk to him, and when asked to leave my property told me he had a certificate saying he was allowed to go door to door, so he didn't have to.  I had a horrible time getting him to leave, he finally took off up the street when I called the police.  The police said they can't do anything because the have the proper ID's.  It's pretty ironic, though, the lady up the street had her house broken into a couple days after they visited her, and she refused to talk to them, they told her the company had bought out ADT, and they were there to upgrade her system.  The business at the end of my street (which happens to have Vector Security) was broken into right after they showed up in the neighborhood.  This is a quite, very low crime neighborhood!  I called Vector to complain, and they said there was nothing they  could do because I didn't have the names of the people. I don't really think they care if their sales people are obnoxious, and perhaps not honest. What a way to run a business!!!!
(Added Aug 18/11) Their rep came to our neighborhood pushing the systems bigtime. Like the other post stated the sales rep was intrusive here too! After I didn't agree with him he asked if my wife was home so he could speak with her. I told him that we would talk about it and let him know, that wasn't good enough for him! He kept on with his "today only" deal and wouldn't take no for an answer. We basically had to throw the guy out! No Vector system for me due to the high pressure sales technique!
(Added Aug 16/11) This company is the biggest home secuity fruad, that I have ever seen. The alarm system malfunctioned at least four times. They for some reason would not update my contact information in their system. When the alarm malfunctioned, they never had my right contact information. My customer password, to take action on my account seemed to change at their disposal. Once, I spoke to an agent about my account and then I asked for a manager. The manager said,"My password was bad and he could not discuss my account." Once again, I had to change my password to find that they only had the wrong contact information in their system. There was an attempt to beak in my home. The alarm was armed, it didnt go off. I called vector, I had to play the password game again. I also never received a phone call. The represenative, would not give me any infomation. He said, I didnt pay for that. So, I cancelled my service. Two weeks later, I receive a call fom a vector represenative wanting me to pay the remainder of the contract. I declined and the agent said she would investigate the account and call me back. She never did return the call. When I called them, I was told the account was sent to collections. They did not want to discuss the account.
(Added Aug 15/11) Representatives keep coming through this neighborhood, and we found their sales techniques very intrusive.  The questions they ask about your home are premature.  They should not be asking questions about such sensitive issues before even selling you a system.  It feels like they are casing your property for robbery potential rather than trying to help you protect your property.  They also mention your neighbors and what they do and say, as if to make it sound like they are friendly and knowledgeable about everyone on your street, yet the information they have is not accurate when you actually know the people.  The second time a man came, I told him we were not interested, and he thought he could bully me into letting me in to talk to other family members.  I was busy and did not have time to argue, but I certainly did not want him in the house, finding out what goodies might be inside.
(Added Aug 15/11) I agree with "Vector is the worst alarm system in the world". If you hear the word Vector, turn and run as fast as you can.  I had a system for 4 years, As long as I had no problems, everything was fine. When I had problems, I couldn't get a rep to return my phone calls. Then they did, the time the system had not worked for 3 weeks. they were to send a technician out.  He cancelled twice on me. I cancelled my contract and moved. I had to furnish a copy of my HUD contract and a letter of cancellation before they would agree to cancel my service. They proceeded to charge 2 months after my initial cancellation request. the rep told me she would refund 1 month. Didn't happen. After calling, I was told, since they so willingly let me out of my contract (after 4 years) I should be happy to pay for 2 months of service after my cancellation. Try Simply Safe Home Security, no contracts, 1/4 the montly cost of Vector/ADT, Vivint, and many more. Once the contract with my new security service expires, that's who I'm going with.
(Added Aug 15/11) Strongly advised against using Vector home security. Was told during the contract that Vector would "move with me" when/if I moved from my current home at no cost, and that it was "risk free".   I was relocated to Phoenix Arizona 6 months later, and Vector does not offer monitoring service in Phoenix, and was told they would not relieve me of my contract despite them not being physically able to honor their commitment.   I have been paying for monitoring service for 2 years at an address that I sold 8 months after the system was installed.  Understand terms and conditions of a contract, and would have been happy to use Vector in my new home, but when they are not able to honor their part of the contract due to no availabilty of monitoring services, the fault falls to the customer.  Awful company - use ADT.
(Added Aug 15/11) They are the worst company out there.  My alarm didnt work for at least 8 months after the battery died, mind you they replaced the system less than a year prior.  They claimed I declined the "warranty package" but would never produce such documents.  Now they want their system back.  After sending me a copy of the contract, my husband's name is forged on it, since he is the owner of the property and they realized they installed an alarm on property not veried by the owner.  They claim that it doesnt matter since they only need one signature to make the contract valid, so if thats the case, why forge his name.  He was living in CA and went and got an Affidavit to attest to that.  The salesperson realized he droped the ball on the transaction after leaving and that the "owner" of the home didnt approve the sales.  So the excuse of only needing one signature does not apply in this case, since I am not the Deed holder to the property.  Their excuse now is that sales person is no longer there, so we are getting our property back and will not do cosmetic repairing to the wall.  The suit that is going to follow for fraud will cost more than what it would have for you to apologize and buy some paint.  Funny how my contract does not reflect the same signatures.
(Added Aug 14/11) Vector notified me that they had a low battery on the motion detector in the hallway.  They could not point out which hallway.  The service department wanted 64 dollars to come and change the battery.  Or, for 6 to 7 dollars a month there would not be service charges, the premium plan. The service deparment could not come out for over a week.  That makes you feel real safe. I figured out how to change the battery. I did not know about the recurrent 3 year plan.  Wow!
(Added Aug 13/11) I tried to cancel my 3 year contract after 2 years because of repeated equipment failure. They would not cancel the contract without me paying the 3rd year fee, would not provide over-the-phone technical assistance, and would have charged me hundreds of dollars to even attempt to fix the equipment - with no guarantee, and no ceiling on the repair call cost.

Never again with these people. They give a bad name to home security firms.

(Added July 4/11) Worst alarm company, do not purchase!! We are currently paying for an active alarm after being provided false information by the sales rep mark. When we complained the manager stated their representives would not provide false information and assumed I was lying. Due to the alarm being wireless we have had a failed communicative service for six months. Vector wanted to charge us a fee to come out and fix it. Customer service reps are rude overall vector security is the worse company I have ever dealt with. They also do not honor military pcs orders
(Added July 4/11) Vector Security is THE WORST. DO NOT USE THEM. I called them every couple of months for the last 8 months to be certain when my last day of contract is to cancel. They are trying to use their SCHEME to automatically get me locked in. I try to cancel, I make it clear to use my cell phone not the account phone. They call the account phone the close my cancellation request. As I keep calling with repeated promises that only one human on this earth can actually do the cancellation (A LIE) and he'll call me back within 2 days, within a day, before lunch, within 10 minutes. NONE OF THEM HAPPENED!
Eventually someone else called me and back and said "no problem I can do it." Just fax me something.
I will do everything I can to dissuade anyone I know from using Vector Security. They are a pack of lying scum.
(Added July 4/11) I used to have Vector and Alarm.com (myvectorsecurity.com) in my home. The Concord 4 panel (awesome security system) with the Alarm.com GSM module, It seemed to be a great service combo. But! Then I found they had a weakness and their verbal reply to me is that we use what the customer had in place. The sell was more than important and not the security of my home and family. What am I talking about? The encryption of the alarm .com with the camera that they was selling was encrypted only from the router to their server, So if any hacker that knows how to hack into a weak encrypted router such as WEP or weak encryption password on WPA are vulnerable to be seen from their own home with the camera that they got with alarm.com services. Their reply shocked me, and shortly thereafter switched to another company.  So be careful if you bought this combo, especially  if you had their camera installed in the last six years, I was weary of having a hacker watching the interior my home and the family movement in my house. Not being in the IT field and looking back, I just wonder if the hacker could of just went directly to the camera and get the same result. I do have my emails of all concern parties to back me-up.
(Added June 4/11) They must be seeding this review site with planted responses.  THEY ARE THE WORST.  Service is fair to poor.  Please be careful with their contract.  They have 3 year contract that they don't talk about in initial sales pitch.  Buyer beware.  They are inflexible on terms with non-performance on their part.  Stay away from this company.
(Added June 4/11) I purchased a Vector home security system through an AMP consultant.  I have been very pleased with both companies.  The salesman walked me through EVERYTHING I was getting into.  I was given a security panel, window and door monitors, and a glass break system completely free of charge.  I now pay $46 per month for monitoring.  I feel that is quite the bargain knowing that I, my children, and all of my belongings are safe.  Before signing the contract I was put on the phone with an AMP customer service representative who also went over every detail of the sale.  It would be hard for the salesmen to pull one over on you when they have their customer service department checking in on every deal.  The technician arrived about an hour later and after the install I was put back on the line with a customer service rep to make sure that the install went smoothly and I knew how to use the system before the tech left.  The technician did forget to leave me with window stickers but after calling AMP I received the stickers in the mail in just a couple of days.  I have been completely satisfied with my system and the process of obtaining it.  I highly recommend Vector to anyone considering getting a security system for their home.
(Added June 4/11) I recently switched from ADT to Vector.  Every thing was fine at first but recently I was awakened in the early morning hours by my alarm going off.  I checked the door that the system indicated was a breach but the door was secure.  I attempted to turn the system off but the keypad was locked up.  I soon discovered that my system was not being monitored.  It seemed like the alarm lasted much longer than it probably was but it was at least fifteen to twenty minutes. I tried to call Vector but my land line was captured. (be sure you have a cell phone if you have an alarm system, even a wireless one)   When I reached Vector through my cell phone I was connected to a young lady who had clearly been awakened.  She was disoriented and could not answer my question as to why they were not monitoring my system and in fact disconnected me so I was talking to air.  I called back and got a man who then talked to me over the keypad.  My alarm was turned off and he said an emergency technician would call me.  He also could not answer my questions.  The technician called me back within a reasonable amount of time and perhaps it was he who turned my alarm off, I can't remember.  He was given the response time by Vector as the time I called them.  He also told me that they had called my emergency back up number and gave the name of my daughter-in-law.  I later found that they had lied, that no phone calls went out so they were misleading about one thing and lied about the other.  I think it's pretty stupid to lie about things that can be so easily checked by phone records.  The technician asked if my contact had mentioned that he would file an incident report and I said that he hadn't.  The technician said he would file two incident reports.  It seems there was a lot of butt covering going on. When I was contacted by a representative later she seemed interested only in my setting up a time with a technician to come and check my system.  She was disinterested in my concerns about the lack of monitoring and offered no questions or comments. Perhaps someone else was to call me about the lack of service but to date they have not. I would like to say that I have gotten very good service from the local salesman and the technicians who cut through all the red tape to help me.  They have had to struggle with being provided defective equipment and in fact, had to replace the new keypad that they had replaced after the false alarm. Even though the equipment now seems to be working properly I have lost confidence in my system.  I no longer feel safe from a home invasion, robbery or anything else. Unfortunately I am locked into a contract with a company that has some problems to iron out.  I am sorry I switched from ADT and will go back to them if this occurs again and Vector can sing for their money.
(Added June 4/11) Vector promised that I would save some money on home insurance. Which there is a discount for through most if not all home owners insurances. On year 2 of 3 year contract when asked to get another letter from verctor to verify system. They said "an associate would have to go there to verify that it is working correctly. The charge is $30." So I asked if system was working the assoiciate then replied that she did not know. So my family and I could be at risk. Thanks Vector for the update. Glad I switched insurance companies to make sure I would not trust that help would come!
(Added May 4/11) Vector Security Company is absolutely the worst security company the I ever did business with. There where several false alarms, I never was contacted. I updated account information and it still was never posted to my account. There where times the alarm was activated and they never contacted me. There was an actual break in attempt, and the alarm never went off and it was armed. I called vector, the didnt want to give me any information. They kept saying my password was invalid. I faxed in password request change. First they said they had it, then they said, they never received it. Finally, I faxed in my last password change request, they still acted as if they never received it. An Employee, verified it was on file and I was transferred to the emergency line, once I told them I wanted to cancel my account. Where they once again told me my password was invalid. Please dont waste your time or money with this company. They wont protect you.
(Added May 4/11) Oh Vector you sly dog you.  Not everyone that PCS's in the military sells their house. So your so called military clause only works for those who sell their house is nonsense.  I dont want to pay for someone to live in my home and use the security system I pay for.  Plus I dont want to get calls from police or anyone else because they accidently set the alarm off.  I pay for the service for my family only. So if by military orders I move and my family comes with me, then cancel the service without me paying 600 dollar to end my contract.  Whats the difference between doing that and selling the home.  I am not living in it either way. Oh and this hold option was never mentioned to me at all in any way when dealing with you.  Like I said before, if you were willing to work with me I would have gladly picked up another contract with your company when I go back to that house. But you didnt and so I wont.  I will just make my money back by turning people away from your service, which I have already.  I have a lot of military friends that are easily convenced when they hear about your stellar military clause and willingness to work with anyone associated with the military.
(Added March 9/11) We signed a 2 year contract with them and have been calling them to cancel as they do not do a good job of even monitoring. The worst one was the alarm was going off for at least 8 hours one day and there were no phone call or anything to either myself or my husband. We called when our 2 years was up and they said we couldn't because we have been auto renew for a year. At that year mark, we called again to cancel but now they are saying we are in a 3 years auto renew. I am in the middle of getting a lawyer to find out if this is legal because both times of the auto renew, there were no paperwork sent to us. Also, we have been paying extra every month to get the payments down but to no avail. The monthly payments remains the same with no credit in it at all! This only shows you how money hungry this company is! DO NOT USE THEM or you will regret it!
(Added Jan 26/11) I LOVE Vector Security!  I have had it for 2 years with my house, and because I have had such success with it, recommended it to my mom for her house.  First the pro.  We had our first ever attempted break in last night.  It was a scary experience for sure, but the alarm scared the burglars away.  They never made it into the house.  Con, I had some trouble with a glass breaker in my house for a few months.  They would replace it, and it'd still have an error message.  One of the men showed me how to reset it, which was good, because if they hadn't I woudln't have been able to reset it myself after the warranty expired a year later.  Haven't had a problem since.
Overall - I would say go with Vector.  Very affordable, quality work!
(Added Jan 12/11) I have had Vector for almost 3 years.  I have had multiple false alarms. Finally the tech came and fixed the issue, but said I would always have problems because of the way my door is. My house is 7 years old by the way.  About a year later I am having the issue consistently again.  Nothing is being done to resolve it. I have had the keychain remotes replaced at least 5 times, and they still only work intermittently.  It takes weeks for the replacements to be sent out, and usually I have to call to see what's going on for them to get the ball rolling. We live in a duplex and it is 3 stories. The keypad is on the 2nd floor as that's where we spend most of the time so it is easiest to set from there.  We cannot hear the alarm on the third floor, and Vector says they can't make it louder.  We don't know the alarm is going off until they call.  They then ask if the police should come out, but since we don't know if it's a false alarm or not what are we to do!?!? I am a very dissatisfied customer and wouldn't recommend Vector to my worst enemy. If you're shopping for an alarm system be smart and pay a little more for a more reliable company!

(Added Dec 26/10) A post to reassure the military of Vector's standards and practices of professionalism.  When you are military as with all applicable laws pertaining to and within the Patriot Act and several acts.  If you PCS or deploy send the company a copy of your orders with a request for early termination.  You can not be punished for this.  I was in the military.  Know your limits.  As with the contract there are several reasons to have one for Fair Business Practices.  Many people get service to be monitored then cancel once they receive credit on their homeowners insurance.  News flash.  Your insurance company will be notified upon cancellation this protects from lawsuits in all angles and instances.  I for one trust Vector and am discouraged in the lack of information that some have received.  When you have questions ask your installers.  They are there to assist you.
(Added Dec 26/10) Re: Military Clause: You must show that you are being PCSed and have sold your home.  If you decide to keep your home and rent it out, then, yes, you will still be responsible for the remaining agreement.  Who wouldn't want their system up and running for your renters anyways?  I know I would.  Also, would you not want to know if the police have to come out to your rental property?  Fire Dept?  Otherwise, you may not find out until it is too late ...
(Added Nov 24/10) I have had Vector Security for a long time!  Whoever said there is no Military Clause, lied.  My husband was deployed so I moved back home with my family and our security was placed on hold without paying any money until we moved back into housing.  Also, my parents have Vector Security, love it!  Alot of Subdealers, such as Powerhomes is who come out to sell you your system.  Who sells Vector Security but is not actually the company itself.  Subdealers will tell you whatever they want to hear to make the sell.  Best thing to do, deal with a Vector Security salesman from the beginning not a subdealer.  Subdealers will try to tell you that there is not a office in your area.  NOT TRUE.  This way there is no confusion about the contract and clauses.  There are offices all over including now in North Carolina.
(Added Nov 16/10) Two years into our service with Vector I have been satisfied. Reading some of the other comments I have to add my opinion. I understood the three year contract and how to cancel it. Never trust a verbal statement, make the sales person show you it in the contract. Vector is a monitiong company only. The service you recieve is only as good as the sub contractor selling and servicing your system. Our authorized dealer is great! Honeywell equipment is used in our home. Honeywell in my opinion is one of the best. If your having trouble with your alarm it is not Vector's fault. It is your equipment type, installation and the competence of the service techician who works on it. Each time I have dealt with Vector customer service the experience has been professional. My advise is you get what you pay for. You want a "free system" that's exactly what your going to get. Remember you are protecting your family and home.

(Added Oct 30/10) After several years of service my first problem occurred 10/22.  The police came as I was unable to get through to Vector to say that all was all right and even though I had put in my code on the keypad.  Each time I called I was disconnected by the central station and no one seemed to care about this situation.  I was extremely dissatisfied and ready to have the entire system removed. No one apologized or expressed any concern that I had such problems.  Then the service tech came to the house, by appointment, and turned my lemon into a lemonade.  He showed me the cause of the problem and fixed it.  He patiently explained what my contract covered, what my panel could do (extra features that no one had ever shown me) and he reviewed some of the other features that I had long since forgotten.  To my mind this person, Chris, saved the day and saved my impression of Vector Security.  I cannot thank him enough for re-establishing my confidence in this security company.
(Added Oct 14/10) Not military friendly.  That should be the end of story right there!  The system in our rental house was OLD to say the least.  We had Vector almost three years and they refused to cancel our remaining three months when we moved from Norfolk.  Ridiculous.  Why is there even a contract to begin with?  Seriously, the system in the house had been paid for ten times over by the time we even started service.  They entered our house ONE time in three years to simply turn the service on, so what exactly is the purpose of a contract?  It is very sad- I would have highly recommended them because we had no problems and the price of $30 a month was awesome.  It is disturbing that a company in Hampton Roads would treat their military customers so poorly... especially when we all participate in direct deposit and are never, EVER late on payment.
(Added Oct 5/10) If you are Military, do not sign a contract with Vector. Vector is NOT Military friendly. We bought a house and signed a 3 year service contract. We were assured that they had a Military clause for when we moved--false! Our options were to cancel the contract which meant paying a large fine or finish out the monthly payments. I had a Jag Officer make some phone calls to Vector to try to get us out of the remaining 1.5 years left on our contract with no success.
(Added Sept 9/10) Well I have read some of the reviews, and I think that some of them might be exagerating.  I've been with Vector Security since 05.  I've had no problems with them and they are very reliable, no excessive fees or bills. Actually the price a month was awesome only $39 a month, so when they said that they needed to upgrade the system to digital at the beginning of 2010 I was like go ahead, but then they said I needed to pay a fee of $200.  I didn't feel like I should be the one to pay the fee since I wasn't the one asking for the upgrade (reasonable to me), but I called to cancel, all they wanted was my reason for canceling and if they could fix the problem. They then canceled the account for me with no fee since I have had the system for 5yrs. I wish that it could have been some other way of dealing with it, but oh well. If this is the company for you go ahead, the alarm company is great and you probably won't have to worry about upgrading it.
(Added Aug 25/10) All I can say is wow! Me and my husband have been with vector for over 6 years and are 100% satisfied.  Every complant I am reading is about people not wanting to pay there bill. A 3 year agreement is just that. As are sales person explained when we first got the system they installed it at a profit lose so the Contact gives them time to recoupe there profit.  After all they are a business.  We actually switched for ADT so if you think vector holds you try ADT. We have never had an emergency but have accidentally set the system off and the response time is amazing.  We also bought the service plan and have never had a charge for someone to come out to look at the system.  I would recommended these guys to anyone.
(Added Aug 25/10) (Updated Jan 3/11) I purchased a Vector Security System in Sept 08 at my home in Maryland.  Before signing the 3 year contract, I asked what would happen if I moved and was told it would be no problem and my service would be transferred.  In April 10 I sold my home and moved to a state where Vector does not provide service.  Vector has been completely unwilling to work with me at all, providing me only with the options of paying out my entire contract or getting the new owners to take over my contract.  I am extremely disappointed in the customer service at this company.  I do not understand a company whose customer service philosophy includes charging customers for a service they are not able to provide you.  Yes, I realize that I signed a contract, but a company should have the decency to provide you a way out of a contract for service that they no longer can provide.  A "buyout" that equals to total amount of the contract is not an appropriate solution.
Update:
Unfortunately Vector continues to not be willing to work with me, and continues to charge me a monthly fee.
(Added Aug 7/10) (Updated Jan 3/11) I have been with Vector for 5 years now.  Starting having problems with door sensors not working and outdoor alarm going bad.  Vector wants to charge 85.00 per half hour for a service call, when I asked for a lower rate they would not budge.  I then requested to cancel my service and I was also hit with "your locked in for 3 years".  I said "but my 3 years has expired, now so I would like to cancel".  I was told and later found the contract and in very fine print it says it auto renews, so basically I'm screwed. This should be illegal!
Update:
Vector would not budge on their position. I ended up paying out the remaining months of the contract and canceled in writing. To the best of my knowledge they are still secretly locking in customers for 3 years recurring without them knowing. I repeat my advice to stay away from Vector.
(Added Aug 4/10) When my mom and dad built their dream home in 2009 the builder used Vector Security. I have to say I'm extremely satisfied with everything Vector has installed in my parents house. Unlike ADT which is what I have in my own house, Vector puts sensors on all your windows and doors. ADT only offers 3 sensors with additional sensors at $100 a pop. ADT uses those huge bulky wireless Ademco sensors. Which they install regardless even if your home is prewired for a security system. Vectors systems are very quiet the keypad beeps twice to arm. I have been satisfied with Vector's monitoring as well. They offer great local service and usually come out - same day if there is a problem with the security system. I would totally recommend them to anyone.
(Added July 11/10) Vector is absolutely horrible. We have lived in our home for one year now and there have been at least three times when I alarm chimed erratically without any windows or doors having been opened.  There were numerous of times when the alarm simply would not arm.  This past 4th of July, we could not arm our alarm, for some unknown reason.  I called to inquire about someone coming out and fixing the issue so we could do what we are paying them to do; protect our home.  They told me that since it was a holiday I would have to pay an additional $200 to come out.  Really!!???  Isn't that a material breach of contract?  He said, "no. that is in the contract."  So I asked, "so if I want my house monitored by you I will have to pay you an additional $200?"  He said, "Yes.  Sorry."
Needless to say, I am in the process of filing suit against them in order to get out of this sham of a contract with them.  They're horrible.
(Added June 23/10) I highly advise people not select Vector Security Systems.  We were concerned we would not be at our house for the 3 years required by the contract and would have to pay for something we were no longer using.  Our salesman told us if we moved somewhere that the system could not be installed in, we would be released from the contract.  In short, he lied and Vector was unwilling to release us from the 4 months remaining on the contract unless the new homeowner's started service.  Their customer service people were very difficult and unwilling to work with us.  They would not take responsibility for what their salesman told us.  We also found the system difficult to use and unneeded.  We will probably never have a security system again but if we do it will DEFINITELY NOT be with Vector.
(Added June 12/10) My wife and I moved into our home in Dec 2005 and as part of the purchase agreement the previous owners agreed to transfer the existing security....(read the whole review)
(Added June 2/10) We got Vector when we bought our house in November 2007. The sales person assured us about the military clause and it wouldn't be a problem to cancel the services due to a move. If you are a military family I WOULD NOT go with this company, because unless you sell your home and have a PCS orders, they will not let you out of the contract. If you decide to rent your home and still have remaining time on your contract you are responsible for the balance due until it expires. Lucky for us we only have 4 months left with this company. Vector's reason for not letting military families out of the contract before the expiration date: If you are renting your home, you MIGHT come back to the home.
(Added May 28/10) Been a satisified customer for 10 plus years. But now that we sold our home we are told this is a "NON-REFUNDABLE" company. We pay our bill on a yearly basis and expected the remaining 5 months to be refunded.  No way says the arrogant customer service rep!  Guess what? They will not be the provider of our new house. And they will not be recommended to anyone who asks for a good security company.
(Added May 19/10) To preface we recommended VECTOR security to a neighbor/friend and they came back to us with this website. So I looked it up.  After reading a few of these "issues" they seem to be predicated on the fact the customer simply does not want the system anymore b/c they don't feel a need for it. None of these issues appear to be a legitmate complaint.  I wonder if these are other alarm companies just writing false reviews ... hhhmmmm.  We've never had a problem with our system, was told it was a 3 yr agreemement and were under a service agreement.  We've had some issues and they were all fixed.  We also asked the question about what would happen if we terminated our agreement inside the 3 yrs?  We were told we still be held responsible for the remainder going forward minus 20%.   So the complainer who claims VECTOR said they still owed $1,000 with only 8 months left on the contract is not telling the truth ... Like I said, I don't believe half of these complaints.  Of course, it would be unrealistic to think a company the size of VECTOR would not have a single complaint.  To sum this up, our neighbor still decided to go with VECTOR ... every company has the same bad reviews.  Like I said, makes you wonder ....
(Added Apr 12/10) I had Vector for 2 years and 4 months. I sold my house and the gentleman purchasing the house said he would keep the system. I called Vector and they said I was still responsible for the last 8 months of my contract. I didn't understand that. The guy didn't activate the service now I am being sued for the alarm system. Vector said I owe 1000.00 for a three year old system and 8 months of service. This is an awful company and I wouldn't recommend their service to anyone. The military personnel should really not use this company because we have to move around too much to worry about paying the remainder of a contract with this compnay.

(Added Mar 4/10) After reading all the negative all the review for multiple alarm companies, I wanted to submit our review for Vector Security.  Vector Security a great company, our sales rep ****** ***** who explained to us very well all different alarm options and helped us choose what we needed for our home. ****** was there for us all the way answering all the questions, being friendly and prompt. Our installation guy was there to help us the same day and install the Vector Security system; during the installation ****** was friendly and very helpful. We have faith in Vector Security and know that we and our home is secure and taken care of.
(Added Feb 12/10) I am trapped with a 3 yr contract... lots of times the alarm does not even work. The test the alarm once a month, usualy the 6th day of the month, if anything happens after their initail testing and if you are not aware of any outages after that, your alarm will not work.  It happend to me.  During another occasion, my alarm showed an error on the keybord on a Friday, I called in to report the error. It took Vector almost a week to send a technician to my house to check out the problem. Again, during that period of time my alarm was out of service.
(Added Jan 31/10) Vector Security has small font policy of renewable 3 year contract. If you cancel it earlier they try to slap charges for the remaining 3 year period. Beware of this catch. I believe such a contract is a mouse trap and should never be signed. The service is in general of little use, a lot of false alarms.
(Added Jan 21/10) (Vector) can't ever hear me over the speaker even when I am less than an inch away screaming at the top of my lungs. They're own technician person came to my house and told me nothing was wrong with my speaker, that the people on the other end of the speaker aren't trained properly and can not hear me. When I called to see what I could do about this problem, the supervisor told me he could not vouch for the conversation with the employee since he wasn't present the time it took place. He said Vector could not be responsible for things their employees tell me. I asked him if he would personally come to my house so that way next time he could be present. Obviously, his answer was no. He offered to send out another technician. Basically, its a repititive cycle with technicians and supervisors that will never stop because no one from this company will take responsibility for their ridiculous worthless system.

(Added Jan 9/10) I've had a Vector Alarm system for nearly a year and I am very happy with it. I've utilized their online and telephone support and was pleasantly surprised by their quick, useful response.  I have Slomin Shield at my other home and can't stand it. I don't even both to arm it.
(Added Dec 29/09) (Updated May 10/10) I would finally like to thank Vector Security for giving my child a wonderful Christmas.  Because of them and their unwillingness to accept a reasonable payment plan, 200 for the last 3 months, (which I shouldnt be paying in the first place).  They pretty much drained anything I had saved for my kid.  I wasnt able to buy but only 7 presents for my kid this year, and that money was donated from Sears, Thanks Sears.   For anyone considering this company, DONT, find another.  I also ask anyone seeking to use this company to read the other reviews they sum it up pretty well.  If you are in the military this company is NOT military friendly whatsoever.  Some companies give, while Vector only takes.
Update:
Vector Security has been one of the worst companies I have every done business with and will never recommend them to anyone.
(Added Dec 4/09) Ok, we had a Vector Security System for almost 2 years.  The system never worked appropriately (did not alarm when appropriate, false alarms, then completely stopped working).  We had a gold service plan and requested service several times (no shows).  2 phone calls, no shows.  My husband decided to stop paying them, hoping to get some attention.  Well, we got it....harassing phone calls from "April" in billing who refused to send service out until we paid our bill in full.  I was talked to in a condescending, arrogant, power-hungry tone.  We paid our bill in September and called to, again, request service.  We were told that our account had been cancelled 10 days AFTER we paid the bill in full.  I asked if we could reinstate account and she said sure for an additional $100.00+ dollars.  I refused and she told me that there was absolutely NO compromise, we would be transferred to collections in 10 days if we did not pay a full amount of approx 350.00 today to fulfill our contract (11 months).  But she still refused to reinstate our service (wow, I thought we were in a recession).  Today, I get a collections letter for $568.79 and no one can tell me how the amount went from 300-500 dollars.  DO NOT PICK VECTOR FOR SERVICE.
(Added Nov 2/09) (Updated Jan 22/10) After several months I am still paying Vector for no service.  This goes out to any Military personel out there that is looking for security companies.  Do not use Vector.  You may be required to move and when you sign that 3 year contract they will get their 3 years worth of money one way or another.  Or you can just sell your house for them, which I can't find in the contract anywhere.  After reading some of the other posts it's showing a trend with this company.  They provide service to "my house" they say, not the owner of the house.  They can't transfer their service, they don't care if they are providing service or not, just the fact that someone signed a 3 year contract that they will get all three years of money.  Hey, I should try that tactic just make people sign a contract, hide behind it, and provide no service.  I would be rich.
Update:
No problems were resolved with Vector Security.  They forced me to pay money for no service.  They are a non military friendly pathetic company and the only peace I get from all of this is when people read my reviews they choose not to go with Vector.  I offered to settle this with a great advantage to the company and to even keep me as a customer if they would relent and be military friendly but they figured my 600 dollars was more important than the thousands I would have paid them in the future. So hopefully I am costing them thousands by turning people away that makes up for my 600 dollars.
(Added Oct 15/09) I call the local Vector office asking them if I can switch to Vector, since I'm done with my 3 yr ADT contract. I'm tired of ADT and their service. The guy on the phone takes an inventory of my current system and very happily says, sure we can use your existing equipment with Vector. Ok, so I'm all happy; he gives me a $35/month rate, and I say great! Then he tells me you have to sign a 3 yr contract!! I ask him, well you don't have any investment in my house, so why should I sign a contract...silence on the phone (looks like I've hit him where it hurts), then he says, ok I can give you a free fire detection kit, worth $169 and 3 months free monitoring. Well think about it; tomorrow if I need to break out of the contract I probably will have to pay early termination as well..haha..like I'm going to fall for the scam...Vector..you have not a single penny of expenses to put the system in..and you want me to sign a contract..well makes no sense to me!! I've decided I'll stay with ADT because it gives me the freedom to walkaway.
(Added Sept 23/09) I have been a customer with Vector since 2005 and never really ran into a major problem well unless you want to count numerous dead batteries and an alarm that would go off quite often for no reason.... but the worst was when I recently moved and tried to cancel my service.  When I first signed with Vector I signed a 3 year contract not knowing that every three years it renews itself, and even if you move you may not ever cancel unless you buy out the remaining months you have left, in my case that would be 17 months almost $600!  I have expained that I have already moved but they don't seem to care!  It just seems cruel and heartless that in the ecomony they would treat people this way, making us pay for a service we are not using is selfish and heartless!!!
(Added Sept 9/09) The service provided by Vector Security in Montgomery county, PA is atrocious .It is virtually impossible to get anyone on the phone, even the monitoring center request you leave a message, but don't worry they will absolutely not call you back. Their web site states that 'personal service is a bedrock value ...blah blah blah".  This is without doubt the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I recommend you look elsewhere, I doubt you can do worse.

(Added July 29/09) Well I'm in Youngstown, Ohio & I have been with Vector for nearly 9 years and I have had NO problems.  They always answer fast and if needed they send the police/fire/and medical.  I feel sorry for the others out west that have had problems... I can got directly to the vector office that is about 15min away from my home.  All in all I guess that it depends on what part of the country that you are in for there to be good service!!!

(Added July 15/09) I have had Vector Security for around 3 years now and have been very happy with the service. I live in the Charlotte NC area and talked with many companies before making my choice. I have to say, they have delivered everything as promised! My alarm has gone off a couple of times and they are always very quick to call to check on us. I have read some of the negative reviews below and wonder if those people realize that the same things are in all security company contracts? It is a good idea to read paperwork if your going to sign it!
(Added June 24/09) I recently had a run-in with a Platinum Protection salesman.  He was a kid with a GE shirt and tag.  Let me start by saying I am in sales for my profession.  This kid was the worst salesman I have ever come across.  He pulled the same pitch as the others mentioned in here about dropping names of neighbors.  I currently have a home security system through Vector and have had them for the last 4 1/2 years.  They have been nothing short of exceptional in every aspect from customer service, repair, to calling quickly after the alarm goes off.  He starts with the whole "equipment for free pitch" never once mentioning what the monthly fee would be.  When I asked him his answer was $10 a week.  What a bunch of bull.  It's not $40 a month because there are 52 weeks.  It was actually more than $40 per month which is much more than I pay now.  After going through the whole thing and asking questions, I decided to proceed.  After taking my info they did a credit check which I really didn't understand why.  Then he comes back and says my credit score is below their limit and they would have to charge me $199 for install.  I proceeded to escort him out of my house and I am glad because I really like the system and service I have received from Vector for the last 4 1/2 years.  Stay away from Platinum Protection.
(Added June 10/09) So somebody from Vector calls me the other day to tell me that I must have had a power failure at my house because the alarm system was 'unsupervised' for a short period of time.  I call them back to confirm that someone has called.  Now I live in North Carolina where there are many thunderstorms that knock down power lines.  I've had several power outages over the last 4 years, but this is the first time in the whole 4 years that I've had the Vector system that someone has actually called to acknowledge that there was a problem.  I shudder to think what would have happened if someone had broken into my house.  Maybe the call center people would be back from their coffee breaks..  I'm getting another system with another company.  Maybe Brinks.
