(Added Nov 2/11) Terrible company. Contract runs Jan - Dec but our billing is July - June, and there's no indication of that on the bill. Emailed and called to cancel. Was quoted an amount of $56 for prorated cost and was told it will take several billings before statements stop coming. After 4 more statements, I called and was told the $56 amount was an error, I have to send $136 more. They tried to call me, but had the wrong area code on file and informed me it was my fault that my records weren't updated - even though my phone number isn't shown on my bill so I had no way of knowing it was incorrect. I asked the rep to email me a copy of the contract, but I never got the email. He suggested I send in the balance right away as it has already escalated to collections. I feel they are dishonest and after reading the other reviews, I know I am not alone.

(Added Aug 24/11) Worst customer service ever. My contract was brought by SAFE and my 36 months was up on 7/09/2011 which I was unaware of becasuse we signed up with Security alarm group in july of 2008. I called and told them I can no longer afford the service and that my land line was being turned off because I couldn't afford to keep it on. I wanted to cancel my services and of course they said that it automatically renewed. I ask why they didn't send me a letter stating it was time to renew my contract or I had the option to cancel. The contracts states that I can't cancel during my intial agreement which I fulfilled. It doesn't state that after they automaticlly renew it that I can't cancel. So they are full of crap. I am going to the Attorney General Office because I believe my state which is michgian has laws to protect you from this type of thing. I have already reported them the the BBB and I will be contacting the Attorney General Office for the state Of California. Once I am through with them I will never hire an outside company again just not worth the headache and the talking in circles that they do like they are reading from a book.

(Added July 4/11) Like many others have said, this company is a total scam. The contract is written such that it automatically renews every year (no problem) but such that it can only be canceled in a 4wk period prior to the renewal date. So if you move or decide you are unhappy with the service, you could be locked in for an entire year, even if you have already been a customer for 5 years! This is ridiculous. They are almost impossible to contact as well. I would never use this company again.

(Added June 4/11) People have to understand that S.A.F.E Security is a monitoring company and financing company. A majority of these accounts were purchased from other companies. Most complaints on here talk about how there company was bought out by S.A.F.E, which means the company who set them up to begin with sold their account to S.A.F.E with the contract that was ORIGINALLY written. S.A.F.E can't let every customer out of a contract that is having a problem because they were "auto renewed" or "mislead when the first signed up", or they would be out of business. They take a look at the contract and make sure everything is legitimate and then purchase it from the company who sold the account in the first place. There a many times that the original sales rep lied to the customer but S.A.F.E has no way of telling until they purchase the account and the customer starts to have issues. These contracts they purchase aren't cheap and they can't jut let every customer cancel that wants to because of a pre-existing issue they had before their company sold it to S.A.F.E. They take very good care of their customer's and are one of the only companies out there to offer all customers a lifetime service plan, which mean you never pay for service.

(Added Oct 12/10) Our alarm monitoring service was transferred to Safe Security a few years back. All I have to say is that they are a scam. I cancelled my services months ago and they are still billing me. I always call and they tell me a different reason why my account is showing a balance. DO not use this company. And I advise you if you are under contract DO NOT sign up for auto bill pay. I am so glad I didn't. (Even though it seems like every other week I received a letter that my payments weren't received and to sign up for auto pay **meanwhile the checks cleared**). Also, If you do want to cancel do it in writing way before your contract ends. If not, it will automatically renew and you'll have to pay a fee to cancel.

(Added Apr 30/10) My alarm went off on a false alert. I was at work. They called me on my cell phone didn't get an answer. Before I could listen to the message to call them back my neighbor phoned me to advise of the alarm going off. I called back safe security. They advised me the call to the police had been placed but was also already cancelled. So in other words... they called the cops since they didnt reach me asap but before they actually spoke to me... the homeowner.. they canceled the police call. I canceled the account and was not under contract and specificaly asked if I was going to have a penalty and was of course told no. So don't you know I am being hounded by a bill collector saying I was under a renewal contract I signed for auto renew. I feel as though I was lied to and I signed this under false pretense. I would have never signed an automatic renewal knowingly. It's too late for me, but if your considering an alarm company don't use safe.

(Added April 24/09) I do not recommend this company. Their contract policies are unethical. If you already have an agreement with them, carefully review your contract and deal with them only in writing with postal return receipts and keep photocopies of all correspondence. My local installer sold our monitoring agreement (dating from 1994) to them six months after our system was installed. When we recently wanted to discontinue the service, we were told that our agreement renewal date was actually six months after the termination of our annual billing statement. It appears that we will owe them money for six months service which we will not actually receive from them. It seems to me that rolling contract agreements which cannot be canceled even after a very prolonged period of service and which do not correspond to billing dates are inherently unfair because it is unclear to the consumer when they may terminate them. Thus I would avoid doing business with them.

I strongly strongly discourage you to give them a try at all. I give this company a zero / negative star. Unbelievably bad and, unprofessional service. We have been with them for more than 10 years. We have never late for a single payment and yet....(read the whole review)
