(Added Nov 30/11) Interface Securities failed to alert me that I was signing a 5 year contract. Furthermore, they were told I was moving within a year or two, but still stuck the 5 year contract in the agreement. I have since moved and they have been hassling me for money. The law firm that represents Interface, Rosenthal, Morgan, and Thomas Inc., are threatening to file a legal action against me if I don't pay over $2,000 for the remainder of the contract. It has only been 10 days since I received notice that my account had been sent to collections, and this law firm is already threatening me with lawsuits. Interface security is in deep financial trouble and they are extremely unethical. Save yourself the money and trouble by not using them.
(Added July 4/11) Complete criminals! Whatever you do, do not use Hawk Security aka Interface Security, I just called to cancel my account as my 3 year contract was up, well they told me that my contract self renews it self every year unless you send them a letter in writing 30 days before the contract is up stating you want to cancel. What a scam
(Added May 4/11) Just over a year ago my mother in law moved from Louisiana to California with us. She already had interface and we wanted to keep the security until her house sold as we still had some items and a car left at the home which we could not bring with us at the time. Due to the fact that no one was living in the home there was no phone service so Interface had to come and install what they call cell back up which apparrently uses a cell phone type device to monitor the security instead of going through your traditional phone land lines. Well apparrently they had us sign a 5 YEAR contract and DID NOT tell us. The woman who came to the house and set up the installation for us knew full well the house was going up for sale and we only needed service until the home was sold. We thought we were paying month to month and didn't know we were on any kind of timed or yearly contract. Why on earth would we sign such a thing when we were selling the house? So now that the home has sold we called to cancel and were told oh by the way you signed for a 5 year contract and if the new owners don't pick up the rest of the contract we would owe them the balance of the contract. That's $40 per month for approximately 4 years left on the contract so about $2000. Yes TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!! I simply could not believe it. If a cable company or a phone company have to let you out of your contract for $300 or so, how on earth is it legal for interface to make you pay for years of service you didn't even know you signed up for? This is a complete scam. DO NOT ever sign a piece of paper from them w/o reading every word of fine print. Even if they tell you what it is for. Do not sign without reading for yourself. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a company. They won't get another red cent from us unless they pry it from our cold dead hands. BEWARE!
(Added March 9/11) I called in to the customer service department to disconnect my service because my 36mon contract would expire this month. Well... little did I know that they went ahead and renewed my service almost 2 months ago for another year. I was shocked to hear this. I asked them why haven't they sent any type of notice before hand. The rep told me that this was something I should have remembered 3 YEARS AGO! Really? Who remembers anything 3 years ago. The rep didn't mention anything about any renewal. All he said was on the 36th month, call in and tell them you don't want an extension.... which is what I did. The rep was very adamant that I wanted the extension. In addition, I would have to send a letter 30 days prior to their renewal to terminate my service. WHO THE H*** KNOWS WHEN THEIR RENEWAL DATE... WHEN THEY DON'T TELL YOU!!! Then, when I tried to cancel it anyways.. they were gonna charge me for an early termination fee... WHAT THE HECK! Total scams... I've never heard of a company that does things behind your back. Don't we have the right to know what is going on w/our accounts regarding any change? This is BS....If I can reach out to anyone out there... BEWARE... This is not a necessity... only a SCAM!
(Added Oct 30/10) An Interface employee came to my home to transfer the existing service to my name after we bought our home....(read the whole review)
(Added Aug 25/10) I would never do service with Interface ever again. We were with a different company that got bought out by Interface yrs. ago. We have had our system for well over 12yrs. In 2007 our key pad broke so we called Interface to come fix it, which they did in great time. When the tech. left he asked me to sign a piece that stated what he had done. Of course I did. Little did I know that I was sighing a 5 yr contract. Nobody told me. The tech pretty much lied and said it was just a service sheet. Now we want to go with a different company and of course they won't let us out of our contract. I talked to a supervisor who pretty much said Yeah it's bad they didn't tell you but oh well. It's one thing if you sign a contract, but when you are tricked into it's pretty sad that the company won't step up and admit when their guys make a mistake. I would never recommend them to any one!!!! They are all about the money and could care less about the customer.
(Added Feb 12/10) We have had this home security system for 15 yrs. In October, 2009, we cancelled due to the fact that we are moving.  Today, Feb. 1, 2010,  we received a statement for $149.90 for the "balance of contract" (through May 31, 2010).  This is definitely a case for the BBB and FTC.
(Added Oct 15/09) Interface is okay until you try to leave their service - then WATCH OUT!  They are still trying to make me pay them the remainder of a year of service, even after I met the 3 year contract ($280).
(Added July 2/09) Do not use this company! They will make you sign a 36 month agreement. They do not respond to alarms and their contract even states that they are not responsible if they do not respond. Also if you move they will make you sign yet another contract. First you have to have a sales person come out (48 hours) then another week to wait for a technician. It's awful and their office is extremely rude and acts as if they could care less about your safety. Don't make the mistake that I did, skip this company.
(Added Nov 18/08) Their system works OK I guess.  It's the back office that is a NIGHTMARE.  I had my system go out and it took three months to get it fixed.  After reporting the problem, I still continued to pay, but after a month of waiting I said forget it and stopped.  If Interface was as quick about responding to problems as they are about billing, this would be an excellent company, but alas it isn't so.  They got all huffy and I explained that I would refuse to pay for a service that didn't work, especially after paying for a month of non-functioning service.  It took several hours of bickering before it was resolved.  After disconnecting service after a move, I'm still getting hassled for payment EVEN THOUGH I CANCELLED SERVICE.  WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!!
(Added Oct 17/08) Interface is a good company (i.e. the product works, it's the operations that has something left to be desired).  But they have poor phone response time in an emergency, and their invoicing has hidden fees.  They bill for fuel, labor, travel, and a fee for invoicing you.  To change a head or reset a station will run $200.
