I moved into a house that already had the Slomin's alarm system installed. So I decided to re-activate it.
The salesman came in, offered me a wireless smoke alarm, a glass breaker and told me that several of the motion sensors could be moved to avoid my 5 active cats from setting them off. So, I signed the 5 year contract.
Two weeks later, the installers came and informed me that the smoke alarm wasn't wireless and by law had to be placed on the 2nd floor. So they drilled a hole into my hard wood floor, through my utility closet and were going to rip up my carpet and snake the wire under it to get to the box in the kitchen. At that point, I told them no, they aren't carpet installers, the carpet wouldn't be the same again. The motion sensors that I was told could be moved, couldn't because certain walls would be in the way and they would be useless. The glass breaker also wasn't wireless, so I would have had a long wire going across my living room ceiling to hook into the kitchen.
So I called and canceled my contract, citing that the product was misrepresented to me by the salesman. They were kind enough to cancel the contract, then sent me a bill for $1500. I didn't pay the bill because since I was lied to the contract was void, so they sued me in court. I just went to court a few days ago, ready with my pictures, and witness only to find out the attorney for Slomin's wasn't prepared and it's due to go to trial in July 2009.
