Indoor Sirens alert the home or business owner, or the burglar, of a specific alarm event. Most home security companies will only install a 15 or 20 watt siren with a basic alarm system. Don't let them! Insist on a 30 watt siren, which can be heard from outside the house or business, even if all the doors or windows are shut. This alerts a potential intruder that your alarm system is real, and fully functioning. If you have followed the perimeter protection guidelines, the intruder will hear this alarm even before he/she enters the building. Chances are, they will cut their losses and leave without disturbing your residence or building and its contents.
Sirens can sound differently depending on which device is causing the alarm. For example, an alarm caused by a fire safety device (smoke or heat detectors, CO2 detectors) will sound differently from an alarm caused by an intrusion detection device (door or window contact, motion sensor, etc).
Those who wish to protect a business in an industrial area, or who live in a rural setting, may wish to have an outdoor siren and strobe light installed. This is an even greater deterrence to an intruder, and in the case of a rural residence, assists authorities (police, fire, and/or ambulance) in finding your residence in the event of an emergency.
