Protect America is horrible. I strongly recommend that you do not use this company. We signed a 3-year contract for monitoring. Within the first three months, our alarm went off at 11 p.m. on a school night. I tried multiple times to turn off the alarm, but it wouldn't shut down. I knew it was a false alarm but I couldn't shut it off. No one from Protect America called me and no police arrived, so after 20 minutes of non-stop alarming and calming my totally freaked out children, I called the service and asked them to disable my system remotely since I was unable to make it stop. They informed me that they have no technicians on-call overnight and I'd have to wait until 9 a.m. the following morning for help. When I asked for instructions on how to pop the battery to turn it off myself, I was told none of the dispatchers were trained to give me these "technical" instructions and if I damaged my system I'd be responsible for any replacement cost. These dispatchers have no technical know-how, I was told. They only open tickets.
I had to drag two 6-year-old children out of bed and take them to a hotel at 1 a.m. When I called the service the next morning, the "customer service" rep told me I had to be lying about my alarm going off for 11 hours straight. When I asked why they couldn't hear it on the phone, they said they heard it, but it was impossible that it would do that. They said it automatically shuts down after a few minutes. I couldn't comprehend how they could hear it clearly and still call me a liar. When I finally got hold of a technician, he successfully shut down the alarm in about 2 minutes and confirmed that PA doesn't have on-call technicians available.
I escalated my issue to the Director of Customer Service who called me a liar as well and told me I'd have to pay $200 for service call to correct my system.
I escalated to the Owner and never even got the courtesy of a phone call or email back. I suspect the Director stopped my emails and phone calls from progressing up the escalation chain, but it's possible the owner is just irresponsible.
When I asked to be reimbursed for our hotel stay, they denied me...until I threatened to file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Suddenly, they covered the cost of the dispatch.
This company offers shockingly bad service, no on-call technicians overnight or on weekends, no contact from PA when my alarm went off for hours straight, the police were never called, and I had to put up with being called a liar and fighting for reimbursement for charges I should never have been asked to pay. I am clearly not a fan, but I am stuck with PA until my contract ends. I will most certainly never use this service again and strongly advise you to avoid using this company.
