A very nice and skilled young man came to my door, stating "he wasn't selling anything"....
He then said that GE was using free installations as an advertising means to generate more customers. Further he stated that the "sales force" would be around our area in a few weeks, and he was only using 3 homes for the advertising. As payment for using a home as advertising we were to get $1,400 in GE equipment. I just had to sign a 3 year service agreement for $43.00 a month. The installer arrived while I was setting up the service!
Of course there is no free lunch. You are paying for the system. The story about just being a salaried marketing person was a lie, the story of 3 homes was a lie, the 36 month contract was a lie so.....how can you trust anything. Legitimate companys don't install systems at 12 am as this group did with a contact of mine. Out of state plates on cars should be a clue, too.
The guy was still canvassing our area days later. You should not deal with strangers, always listen to your gut feelings...so I got on the internet. Watched the Youtube Wisconson broadcast. Checked the authorized dealers list and called the local dealer. Checked out fraud warnings and cancelled my service.
I not only faxed the cancellation, I sent a registered letter. My neighbor found out the monitoring company didn't even have the correct phone number to call the police that service our area.
8 homes on my street signed up! The contract is for 60 months. The local GE dealer stated service is $24.00 a month.
