On the evening of May 25, 2009 I was approached by a young man wearing a tee shirt with GE Security and Platinum Protection on it and an GE Security ID on a lanyard.
The salesman went on to say he was in the neighborhood selling alarm systems and was going to give three home owners a system "for Free" He said he couldn't give everyone a free system but would give me one if I agreed to put a Platinum sign on our lawn. (Later found out they are all free systems).
He went on to give a pretty good sales pitch about the product and it's two way communication system and that all their equipment was wireless except for the control panel (i.e. keypad). My wife and I signed up and lo and behold they had a install tech "just down the street" and had just finished a new install and could come right over and install our system in about 45 minutes. I asked him how long the contact was for and his response: We will not increase the cost of monitoring for 5 years! Again I asked how long is the contract for? He sheepishly replied 5 years. I reluctantly agreed to the terms against my better judgement.
To make a long story short I tested the alarm the next day by setting off the door alarm and waited to get the "two way call" which never came. I called the sales rep who sent the tech over and discovered he had connected the system incorrectly. After he finished I said I wanted to test the alarm and he said I would have to call the company to alert them of the test. I refused to call ahead and pushed the Panic button and an operator finally came on almost three minutes later, had I needed medical help it may have come too late.
I canceled my contract within the three day period and contracted with Safe Touch Security which comes on the two way communicator within 45 seconds. BUYER BEWARE!!
