I don't usually deal with salesmen who come to my door.  I suppose I did because I am 82 and not as sharp as I once was.  In addition, I had been intending to purchase an alarm system anyway.

The salesman advised me that I would not be charged the usual $99.00 for installation, but did not mention or include on the work order that I would be charged $99.00 for activation.  In order to avoid the installation fee and to get a good price ($39.00, the standard price for this service) I was told that I must sign the contract right away.

After the installation, I became aware that the lock on my front door no longer worked. An "expert" came out to tell me that the installation could not be the problem, but for good will's sake the company would repair the lock.  Later, I received a telephone call informing me that I should have the lock repaired.  If the locksmith would testify that the installation caused the problem the company would pay.  I did not bother to ask the locksmith to certify what he could not certify.  Now, I have a problem. Customer Service informed me that I would not be charged for a service call.  He gave me the service number.  When I called I was informed that there would be a $30.00 charge.  Let me add that I had difficulty  finding a phone number for Platinum because the number offered on the contract is: 888-50-PROTECT, too many numbers, and 411 could not supply a phone number.

Customer Service had difficulty finding my account because without my knowledge, my account has been sold. He gave me a phone number which turned out to be ASG to whom my account was sold.  I think Platinum is a shoddy company taking advantage of elderly people who cannot read the fine print (grey on pink paper) on the back of the contract.

Let me add that I have just talked with a service supervisor at ASG, the company to whom my contract was sold.  To gain my good will, she is not charging me the required $30.00 for this visit.
It sounds like a much better company.
