I was approached in a whirlwind. As a long-term crime victim, of over twenty years, with so many robberies, and apartment entries that I cannot count them, as well as an attempt on my life.....this system had great appeal to me, after having had to move three times in four years in an effort to get away from a very disturbed person.
They were in an out of my house within minutes. Their response is great, in terms of me accidently setting off the alarm on the key chain. Police are here in minutes, and Monitronics is on the Intercom system.
Then, the statements for payment began to move from one company to another and were sporadic, and it became more and more confusing who and when to pay. I would call and get correct information, and they would agree to accept so many months payment. I would get one statement from Platinum, and in the next few months, I would get another statement from another one of their entities. It all became very confusing, particularly since I am trying to recover from all the robberies, and medical bills.
Suddenly, I was informed that they had turned my account over to a collection agency, who wanted a couple thousand dollars to satisfy them. Now, today, a couple months later, I get two more statements from them. The collection agent was rather loud and bordering on abusive. They will tell you that they have turned it over to a collection agency, that sounds like a law firm, but it is simply a division of their company that strong arms and intimidates.
I am sending them a letter, and forwarding my experience to the Attorney General's Office of Utah, as I would imagine that I am not the only one who has had this experience.
