I have run into two instances where my alarm signals were not logged on the Nextalarm site for over 30 minutes when they were sent in from my alarm panel via an ABN adaptor. Good thing these were tests and not real emergency incidents. Most of the time my signals do get through nearly instantly. But twice they did not and I was able to identify and record those incidents. The first was June 20, 2008 at 7 PM and again on Feb 2, 2009 at 7:30PM there was a delay of over 30 minutes from the time of the alarm trip until the nextalarm website showed my signals coming in.
I have their system set to 'ping' my ABN adaptor every 10 minutes and it logs when it cannot 'ping' the ABN adaptor. No incidents showed up on their log for that time period. Additionally I was surfing the web during one of those times so I know my Internet was working. I think they have an infrequent, intermittent problem with their system somewhere *after* the signal gets to them from the ABN adaptor but before it gets logged to the web site activity log. I notifed them of this both times - the second time I notified them I also copied UL seeing as this appeared to be a serious problem and Nextalarm says on their website 'UL listed monitoring equipment'. UL told me they have no UL listing for nextalarm.
The following day Nextalarm cancelled my service saying: "Upon review of your unique equipment, situation, and concerns, we are unfortunately no longer able to offer service to you".
I interpret their reply as:
Unique equipment - You have an alarm panel
Situation - You told UL on us you dirty rotten %^&*
Concerns - Why are you are getting upset when your alarm system signal gets delayed by over 30 minutes?
.... Shoot the messenger and all that.
If you have ever had a problem with your alarm signals getting delayed through their ABN adaptor method of connection - be sure to let the SantaBarbara BBB know as I have a complaint lodged with them on this.
