My husband and I purchased a Monitronics security system because my sister was selling them.

She spoke very highly of the system and how it will pay for itself in a short time.  She admired the enthusiasm of her trainers.  We really didn't need a system as we have 3 large dogs.  My sister gave us a bunch of statistics on the systems response to fire and health issues.  We've had the system for a couple of years now but never needed it.

We recently sold our home but the buyers are not interested in taking over the system.  Part of my sister's sales pitch was that the system can be moved wherever we move at no charge (red flag #1).  The installer of the system also said the same thing.  We are now in the process of moving and when I called about moving the system I was told I had 2 options. 1. Add 15 additional months to my agreement, or 2. Monitronics will pay up to $150 towards installation charges (which can be up to $500).  Neither of these options are "free".  I got no satisfaction speaking to a manager.  What he told me was they have no control over what the sales reps tell the customer.  The reps are not Monitronics employees.  You have to be kidding me.

My sister told us that after 3 years the system is ours, free and clear (red flag #2).  Mr. Manager said that statement is not true and we would have to continue paying monthly charges for as long as we wanted the system.  Needless to say, my husband ripped the system out of our wall.  Monitronics called 45 minutes later saying they detected a problem.  45 minutes???  I could have been dead by then.  I am hoping my sister has some blank contracts laying around (she no longer sells the systems).  I will find a good attorney and fight this despicable company.  I am also interested in developing or participating in a class action suit.  Businesses like this must be stopped.
