(Added Sep 23/11) Do not use Icon! They are shady. I have been trying to get a tech to come over to my house to install an upgraded security system that I AM PAYING for and have had problems for a month now. I called to schedule an appointment and no one called me for two weeks. So I called back and they told me they would work with my schedule. So the tech calls and its three hours before I can even get to my house. Then I call to make a complaint and a new appointment. They say they will credit my bill a month's charge and then they schedule a new appointment. I wait all day on Saturday and no one shows up and of course their office is closed on Saturday so I have no way to get ahold of anyone. I just called and asked to speak to a manager and supposedly they have one manager in the whole office and he wasn't available, they wouldn't give me an extension number and they wouldn't give me a last name. How weird is that? I have another year on my contract with them otherwise I would switch today. Please be careful and do your research when you choose an alarm company, and DO NOT go with ICON; they don't even back their schedulers and don't give out their managers information. WEIRD! |

(Added July 4/11) Icon is bad news. They knocked on my mom's door a few years ago and convinced her to let them switch from ADT to them on the spot. She has dementia and thought they were from ADT and were doing an update. We tried to get it reversed because of her mental state, but they would not let her out the contract. Now she's in assisted living and her house is vacant. A couple weeks ago her house was broken into. Icon received a "no power" signal but did NOTHING about it, even though they'd been getting a "low battery" signal for a month. Their explanation was that the box had a low battery message, which means nothing if the house is vacant, and that they are following "industry standards". So don't go on vacation or leave your house vacant if you have Icon security, and don't rely on them to respond if thieves break in and rip the box off the wall. |

(Added Aug 12/10) (Updated Jan 3/11) Stay away from Icon! Don't let these crooks in your home! Their sales representatives use many different unethical and dishonest tactics to get you to "sign on the bottom line". This company has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau in every state that they do business in and some states are beginning to take legal action against them. The whole company is crooked from the owners all the way down to the sadly inferior repair people. Please do yourself a favor - if someone comes to your door unannounced saying they have anything to do with your alarm company or a different alarm company - slam the door and warn your neighbors. Update: Unfortunately, things have not yet been resolved with Icon. We are attempting to negotiate a settlement with them. First, they wanted us to sign and notarize a proposed settlement, but when we asked that their signatures be notarized as well, then they didn't want it done that way, which makes us distrust them even more - we actually believe that the so called general manager that we have been in contact with is giving us a fake name which explains why he didn't want his signature notarized. My siblings and I have been handling this through e-mails with the company and yet, they have colled my mother (who is computer illiterate) and have harrassed her saying "So, are you still e-mailing us?", and then they hang up on her. Also, we discovered that every time they have called her, they have been tape recording the calls without informing her and in this state, that is against the law. We also discovered that they have a business license in Nevada, but do not have a dedicated office space - again, against the law. These people will speak very kindly until you have a complaint and then they become rude, condascending and abusive. We agreed to not have them notarize their signatures but we demanded that the officers of the company sign the document since we know their names, but so far, they have refused. So unless they agree to have the officers of the company sign, we will be filing a lawsuit against them on several grounds. They were dumb enough to send us a recording of a phone call they made to my mother to get her to agree to a new contract where they told her that a house a block away from her was broken into (which was a lie). In the recording, she tells them that she can't hear very well and that she is losing her eyesight yet they still wanted her to agree to sign a contract. Their m.o. (which was also reported by a piece done by Geraldo Rivera) is to seek out elderly widows and scare them in hopes of getting a contract signed. This company is crooked from the president all the way to the terrible customer service people. |

(Added July 26/10) They are a very frustrating company to work with. They do hold up there end of the contract... they only take your money. They are dishonest and very hard to work with. Not a good security company! |

(Added Feb 12/10) A door to door salesman came to my door and offered free security monitoring equipment for a monthly fee of 41.99 to monitor it for 3 years. I agreed and the tech installed it. He said that he ran a test and it was good to go. After months of phone interuptions I called comcast who is the carrier for my digital phone, cable and internet. They came out and told me that this security system could not possibly work with a digital phone service. I called the company and they were aware of this and said that I had initialed a line in the contract saying that i knew that if I had digital phone it may not work but I would still have to pay on the contract for 3 years. I stopped payment at my bank and was turned over to their collection agency that bullied me and told me they would ruin my credit if I did not pay. I have stellar credit and did not want it ruined so I payed the whole thing. I have just now found my contract and I initialed no such thing. I contacted the company through the BBB and they did say that the system would not work with a digital phone. They also said that I must have turned digital later. I sent the records from comcast proving that was not the case.My alarm could not possible have ever been monitored so they then said you got it from ICON. Their name is on the contract and they gave me a sign for my yard. This is a company you do NOT want to deal with. I thank God that I did not actually need a working alarm system. They refuse to make it right. |

(Added Jan 9/10) A door to door salesman told me that I could receive free monitoring equipment if I signed up for a 3 year monitoring contract. I agreed and the technician from Icon came and installed the equipment. He did a test and said that it was up and running. After months of phone problems, I called Comcast who is my digital phone carrier. They came to my house and told me that this security system was not compatible with digital phone service and it was impossible for it to work.I have spent countless hours trying to resolve this problem and eventually stopped payment at my bank. They then turned my over to threatening collection agency Anderson,Crenshaw & Associates, LLC who bullied me and told me they were going to ruin my credit. I ended up paying almost $1,700.00 for a service I never had. These people are truly crooks. |

(Added <April/08) I have been a customer of Icon Security for about six months now and think they're great. They're certainly the best monitoring deal we found and the service has been better than we ever had during our previous contract with ADT. They have cool features that allow you to know when your kids get home from school or when the housekeeper lets herself in that are included in the price. Thank you for protecting my family! I have nothing but good things to say about your company! |
