Please note the fact that a large number of companies in the security industry use the word "Guardian" in their business name. Our respondents may or may not be referring to "Guardian Protection Services, Inc".
If you live in PA, the Attorney General recently passed very strict laws to protect home improvement companies. Security Companies ARE included.
If someone comes to your door, the first thing you should do is ask for ID, and the second thing you should ask for is their "HICPA" license number. This should be on ALL sales and contractual paperwork. Any reputable company will be registered. If they are not, the are breaking the law and should be reported. There are VERY STRICT requirements in the paperwork, but you cannot expect the sales person to go over the ENTIRE contract. You are an adult. READ what you are signing. They are required to give you 3 days to cancel, so do not let them install same day, or that cancels out the 3 Day right of cancellation because the equipment has already been installed.
Also, if you have a security system, and someone claims that their company has taken over your security company, DO NOT let them rip out your security panel and replace it!! If you are still under contract with your company, you will be stuck with both contracts....Another company from Utah did that to our customers and they are no longer even ALLOWED to SPEAK to GPS customers...what does that tell you???
But there ARE reputable security companies, and EVERY one of them will require a contract. If they installed hundreds of dollars of equipment in everyone's home without some sort of guarantee of getting monthly income from that customer, they wouldn't be in business!!! Common sense should tell you that!!
