I had been an ADT customer for some time. On December 2007 my service was switched to Firstline.

I had my payment directly taken out from my checking account.  On March 2nd a technician showed up at my door and said that Fistline was not providing the service any more and that he was changing all the equipment and my new provider was Counterforce.  I was given a new 3 year contract to sign and had it set up for payments to come out of my account automatically.

On my July 2008 bank statement I noticed that I was being charged double for my alarm system. One charge from Firstline and one charge from Counterforce.  I reviewed past statements and found that begining in May 2008 Firstline started to charge again. Supposedly when Counterforce changed the equipment they sent a letter of cancellation to Firstline. Firstline did not charge my account in March or April and then resumed their charges again in May.  I had to close the account to prevent both companies from charging me until I could find out what was going on.  I called Firstline billing company (in new York) I explained what happened back in March and he said that Counterforce had no right to go and change the equipment. I asked who is providing the service? He said the conpany that you allowed to come into your house to change the equipment. He could not explain why they had not billed me for two months after the change and then started again.  I told him why should I pay you for a service you are not providing?  He said "because you have a contract with us and you should not have allowed Counterforce to come in and take our equipment out."

I called the Counterforce sales rep that originally came to change the equipment and asked him what was the reason he had to change the equipment.  He said that Firstline had filed for bankruptcy and that Firstline was charging for a service they were not providing, no one was monotoring the system. So to protect the consumer Counterforce was contracted to replece the service They were given the address of all Firstline customers to have them switched to a company that could provide the service. As of August 21 I am still being sent bills from Firstline for past due ammounts plus return check fees.  Can anyone tell me who is the good guy and who is the bad guy in this messy situation?
