I've had it with Vector and have several friends who are very happy with Brinks.
We recently had a Brinks system installed and they used our prewire to install a hard-wired system that I believe is more reliable than a wireless system. The 3 year contract with Brinks says that the rate is guaranteed for 3 years, so no surprises.
Free installation (from Vector) was nice, but it's true that you get what you pay for.
3 Month Update:
We continue to be very happy with Brinks.
For the most part, it's like a utility that we don't think about much because we don't have any trouble with it. One day, however, I left a grilled cheese sandwich on the skillet while I ran out to leave a piece of outgoing mail in the mailbox for pickup. I planned to be right back, but found myself involved talking with a neighbor and forgetting about my sandwich. About 10 minutes later, I was surprised to see a fire truck coming down my street, but even more surprised when they stopped in front of my house. There was no fire (yet), but the smoke had set off the Brinks smoke detector and they had called the fire department.
I was extremely grateful for their quick response to my absent-mindedness. The peace of mind is worth every penny.
