I have had the Brinks system in three homes for over 20 years. The first home was broken into twice before I had Brinks installed. Perhaps the stickers and signs were enough, but I liked knowing the house was monitored and I'd know if there was a problem. I also like having a smoke sensor that is monitored.
I've found the Brinks systems (which have changed and I think improved over the years) easy to use and have had very few false alarms (ten or fewer in 20 years). The alarm pads are well thought out: for example, being able to cancel out a false alarm without getting a call from the monitoring center while you are at the house is a useful provision (you need to know your security code of course).
The service is somewhat expensive (it has gone up about ten dollars a month since my first installation), but I think it's worth it. All of the technicians have done a good job for me too - thinking through the implications of the system components before beginning to install it.
All of the people I've talked with on the phone at Brinks have been professional. The wait to get someone on the phone can be a bit long at times, but you can get around this sometimes by using the web site once you have a system.
