I am a former employee of Bay Alarm and would like to rebut the comments here about Bay Alarm. Bay Alarm Company is, for the most part, a fairly good company. Many complaints I have heard about Bay Alarm are due lack of knowledge of alarm systems and/or their own contractual terms.
The first thing I would like to clear up is that Bay Alarm does NOT wait 3 minutes to respond to an alarm. This is completely against dispatch procedures and would result in the dispatcher being repremanded. The 3 minute rule applies only to alarms that are cancelled with a code. If an alarm goes off, and in the process of calling the customer or police, the alarm is cancelled with a code, the alarm is considered immediately cancelled and no further action is take. This is done to prevent unnecessary police dispatch and fines to the customer from the police department for false alarms. This DOES NOT apply to fire alarms, panic alarms, or hold up alarms.
Bay Alarms service technicians are average. Their techs are not pressured to finish quickly, which generally allows for quality work. Sometimes, a tech will believe he has fixed the problem....the panel sends signals and all zones are reset.....and then the same problem will reappear. this is not shoddy work, just a complicated issue. Of course, those that do not know anything about alarm systems think every issue is a quick in-and-out fix, which it clearly isn't. Many customer also complain about being charged for services. A customer either owns or leases the equipment. If you lease it, most services are free of charge, provided the issue is not due to customer misuse. Those that own their alarm system are, quite simply, the owners of the system and responsible for it's maintenance. Many of these system owners believe that the monitoring fee they pay includes service. For the most part, it doesn't. They are paying for the alarm signals to be monitored and that's it. Bay Alarm does not tell customers that own alarm systems that their fees cover service. So these alarm owners complain a lot about paying for a service call as they do not know the terms of their contract.
Bay Alarm has been a family owned business since 1946. Bay Alarm's alarm handling procedures go far and above the CSAA standard. Their dispatchers are polite and knowledgeable and tend to have some technical knowledge. While you're here.......who's there? Bay Alarm....What have you got to lose?
