I work in sales in an IT company. I'm not a technicial but I like to think that I know enough to be dangerous. APX came to my door right when I got of work today. I loathe door to door salesmen.
When I opened the door I was met by ****. Within 30 seconds I knew the game was on. The whole sign in the yard for the free equipment and yada yada yada. I'm not sure what compelled me to keep listening to him when I knew how I was being played. Maybe I was impressed that he seemed to be doing it so well. Seriously. He was knowledgable about the equipment and I think he did a fine job of giving me every detail of information I needed. I had been throwing around the idea for a security system for awhile so I thought what the hell. I won't repeat the process since it was pretty much identical to what everyone else has wrote but he said the installer would be right over.
Ryan was a personable guy. Easy to talk to. He for sure was "selling me" but I do think he believed in what he was selling. John the installer came over and he was very efficient. It's always slightly alkward when there is a stranger in your house working on something and you are just sitting there in the same room waiting for them to get done. John was really cool and actually initated conversations and gabbed while he was working. He showed me how everything works and I like what I see. I think I'll be happy with APX.
Here is what I want to say to all of the complainers. You did not get scammed, you got SOLD. That is what salesmen do and it's their job to do it. I agree wholeheartedly that there are some slimey salepeople out there conning people all day long. I don't agree with that sort of thing but if a salesperson can come to my house, treat me with respect, install a system that is affordable then why should I complain about how he got the sale. There are GOOD people out there in sales positions that are just doing their job. It's their job to make you believe in their product and buy it.
My advice would be read the contract, make sure the equipment is what you need and sign on the bottom line. You're keeping the service, not the salesguy.
APX Alarms have been installing and selling (usually door-to-door) security systems since 1999, with monitoring centers in Utah and Minnesota. (These "in-house" central stations are quite new for APX, so older clients may still be monitored by ADT, SAI, Criticom, or Monitronics). Please remember that APX Alarms has thousands of other clients that may (or may not) be happy with their service, and this is only a small sampling of the opinions of their customers.
