In July 2006, we were convinced by a door-to-door APX sales rep to let APX update our original system (initially installed by ADT in 2000 following a burglary to our home) to an updated cellular system.  Since we had recently had several burglaries in our city, with burglars cutting the phone lines outside houses, we agreed.  The sales rep said we could disconnect our "land-line" phone and just use the cellular component they would install.  The 60% monthly monitoring fee increase seemed reasonable, since the equipment was to be updated to cellular, thus negating our need to continue "land line" phone service.

APX installed a couple of smoke detectors, provided one remote key fob, and SAID they installed the cellular component. During the next 2 years (2006-2008), APX collected $48 per month to monitor our system, and we assumed all was as it should be.

In November 2008, ADT reassumed our contract from APX, maintaining the $48 per month monitoring fee.  Recently, during a check of our system, ADT informed us that we did NOT have a cell unit and that we were totally dependent upon our phone land-line for security monitoring.  (For some reason, luckily, we had not disconnected our phone line, or we'd have had no security monitoring at all over the past 4 years!)

In June 2010, at our request, ADT sent out a service technician to verify that we, indeed, did not have the cell component and had never had it!  That has resulted in our paying over $800 in increased monthly monitoring fees over the past 4 years, for an "updated", cellular security system which we never received.    The APX brochures and the sales rep clearly promised the updated technology that the cellular component would provide, but it was all apparently a fraud.

My calls to APX resulted in them declaring that they couldn't do anything about it, since ADT had reassumed the contract for monitoring.  ADT initially said if I sent the contracts and paperwork to them, they would ask APX to bear the cost of the cellular component and its installation, and if they would, I'd have to pay an additional monitoring fee for the cellular monitoring.  After many phone calls to both ADT and APX, my husband and I were so frustrated that we decided to just drop all our security monitoring because we were overpaying for it and weren't getting anywhere with either company.

However, when I called ADT today to cancel our monitoring service, I spoke to a wonderful service representative who was able to arrange for ADT to install the missing cellular component and provide the cellular monitoring, at no additional expense to us.  Yea for ADT!!!  Shame on APX!!!!!!!!!!!!
APX Alarms have been installing and selling (usually door-to-door) security systems since 1999, with monitoring centers in Utah and Minnesota.  (These "in-house" central stations are quite new for APX, so older clients may still be monitored by ADT, SAI, Criticom, or Monitronics). Please remember that APX Alarms has thousands of other clients that may (or may not) be happy with their service, and this is only a small sampling of the opinions of their customers.

If you have had a good or bad experience with APX or any other alarm company, please submit your review!  Reviews are only edited for spam and/or vulgar language.
