I did a lot of research of various alarm companies. This website had a lot of horror stories for all of the companies that I looked at.
After awhile I just figured that reps from other companies were posting bad reviews. I also looked at the BBB website and found ratings for the companies. APX was a B rating compared to some A and A- ratings. I was concerned about this but I dug deeper. It seems the lower BBB rating was due to some of the sales people. They would knock on doors, sell the product then move on. Seems that they didn't have to provide state licensing information. So that got them in trouble in a few states. But this is not a reflection on the system. So I upped their rating since I did not deal with someone going door-to-door.
I talked with reps at ADT Broadview/Brinks, Frontpoint (a small company, but impressed) and Protect America. Frontpoint had a very good system but they and Protect America would ship me the system for my installation. Not going to happen. I could probably do it but the cost was still in the range of the others so why should I do it. Broadview/Brinks was a good company but I did not like the system and the price was still similar to APX. I was not impressed with ADT since I required a lot of information from all the companies, I was surprised that after an hour on the phone with ADT rep when I refused to give him credit card information or agree to the system he HUNG UP ON ME. Isn't that a laugh :). But I dealt with ***** at APX and he was never pushy. We had at least 3 phone conversations and ultimately he gave me a deal he said I could not repeat. But it is not in writing. So I got 13 points for free and he threw in 2 key fobs. The system has been installed and no problems. Although the installation could have been better, the smoke detector on the ceiling is not exactly centered. The two installers had their ID's and they took their time to install, test and explain in great detail how the system worked. I especially liked the cellular communication that the system provides. No cut phone or cable lines. Well for now I am completely happy but if anything arises I will be back. L. Wilcox
