I read with some regret the review posted on 9/18/09 about the poor experience someone had with APX and that they strongly recommended against using them. They also were unsure if it was a real company.
My advice, read the contract, by law he had 3 days to change his mind and have the system uninstalled without a penalty. The contract would state if there is a cancellation fee and how long the contract would run for. Had he read the contract he would have known all the information he was complaining about and gotten out of it within the 3 day grace period. Buyer beware, read the contract!
We were also approached late one afternoon regarding an alarm installation. The sales representative was very knowledgeable and we agreed to the install. It was also done in the evening but it only took a few hours. We do not have small children so the noise was not an issue. We even had a small problem and the tech came back very promptly and fixed it. Our alarm has been in for a year now and I am glad we have it.
They are a real company and are legitimate. We had a few instances where a door was not closed properly and came open and set the alarm off. The system worked as advertised and we were able to speak with the monitoring service over the alarm panel and get everything taken care of. Had we not had the alarm our family room door would have been standing open in the middle of the night in January for anyone to come in.
We also just had a battery die in one of the key fobs, not too long ago. The alarm panel knew the battery was low and notified the monitoring service who in turn notified us. We got new batteries for the fob and it was reset in no time. The customer service was very helpful about silencing the alarm panel reminder until the key fob was reset and told us how to replace the batteries.
I think we got a great deal, 3 door sensors, a motion sensor, two smoke detectors - didn't cost anything except the monitoring fee. We had always wanted an alarm and now we have one at a very affordable cost.
