My take on APX Alarm and their summer sales tactics: The salesperson was aggressive, disingenuous, and downright deceptive. He was sly and slick, and he talked me into buying something I really didn't want. Within an hour after the installers left, I knew I had made a mistake and decided to call the 1-800 number and exercise my 3-day right of cancellation.

From that moment on, I have been incredibly impressed with the professionalism and courteousness of the customer service people at APX. I was instructed to email a scanned copy of my cancellation notice with my signature, and I decided to go ahead and mail a copy by priority mail just to be safe.

That was Saturday night when I emailed my signed cancellation notice, and now Monday evening I received a call confirming my cancellation. A customer service representative did offer to lower my bill or give me a couple of months for free, but was not at all pushy and was very nice when I insisted I wanted to cancel. I explained that is was not only the cost of the service, but also the fact that I feel that the salesperson was not honest, and that makes me fear that the company may not be reputable or ethical. He did apologize for my experience, and in no time I was transferred to the scheduling department and a convenient appointment has been scheduled for the equipment to be removed tomorrow afternoon.

Assuming that things continue to happen in this way, I will be very happy to get this whole thing behind me! After the salesperson left I felt truly dismayed at having let him talk me into the contract, and also truly worried that this was a real scam. It turns out that APX is NOT a "scam", it is just a company with a bad sales policy.

And for what it's worth, it seems like most of the complaints that I have read on the web have been by people who did NOT read and understand the contract before they signed it. I was well aware that I was signing a 3-yr. contract with service for $50/month, and that I had three days to cancel before I would be locked into the service.
