I, too, was contacted at night (6pm).  A nice man talked to me about his alarm system. He stated that they were promoting their system in this neighborhood and they would install their system for free.  All I had to do was place their lighted sign in my yard. He noticed the ADT sign in my yard and said that he could give me "cell back up" and "fire alarm protection".  He stated that ADT didn't offer "cell backup" which is not true...I already have cell backup from ADT.

However, the fire service I had never had installed from ADT and thought it would be nice to add that at no charge.  He came in looked at my system and told me what they could do.  But basically all they would do is add "fire protection".  He didn't understand that I had cell backup.

After agreeing to signup, I was puzzled that his installation team would be here in 20 minutes!!!  I didn't even have time to really research it.  It was now 7pm and this installer guy shows up and is clueless.  Fortunately another tech showed up and installed the keypad...THAT IS ALL THEY DID...INSTALL THEIR KEYPAD. They weren't certified yet to install fire/smoke alarms in my state.  They were all from out of state...there were no local guys that I could find.  They told me they would call me in 2 to 3 weeks to install the smoke/fire alarms.

I questioned this but they assured me someone would call me.  I became quite concerned so I looked them up on-line and found this site AND MANY OTHERS.  The next day I was so leary, but felt I had been scammed and that was that.  I called ADT to cancel and discovered I was still under contract with them.  I began the process to cancel my APX contract.

Upon looking at my cancellation notice, I discovered my sales rep and put the wrong AR# on my cancellation notice.  This notice only has the date of install, date cancellation deadline, the AR# and a signature line for me.  I called APX to get the correct AR#.  I faxed AND sent my cancellation overnight express mail.  They called me on Thursday to schedule a tech to come uninstall their equipment. And also on Thursday ADT came and reinstalled their keypad.

I waited all afternoon Friday (today) noon to 5:30 and they were a no-show.  I called @ 5:30 and now they are scheduled to come Tuesday.  It is amazing to me that they can be here to "install" their equipment in 20 minutes but I have to wait for hours today and only heaven knows how long on Tuesday for them to simply come pick-up their KEYPAD.  I could send it to them via Pony Express more quickly.
