AMP - Alarm Monitoring Protection is based in Provo, Utah, but serve customers across the U.S. They primarily use the "door to door" method to market their services.  AMP will install your system, but central station monitoring will be provided by Vector Security, Guardian, or Monitronics.

If you submit a review for AMP Security, please indicate whether the review is for AMP, or the company that monitors your system.

(Added Dec 16/11) AGAIN, read the fine print. You must cancel within THREE DAYS or you will have to deal with a 5 year contract. The woman who came to my door (wish I could remember her name at the moment, however can't) told a ball faced LIE and said that I had 30 days to cancel. After they had installed everything and my husband came home from work, we made some price comparisons w/ other alarm companies in the area. (I know, I felt pretty darn stupid.) Turns out (for what we wanted) we would have been paying 50 dollars more! The lady had lied and showed me some charts making it seem as if I was getting a GREAT DEAL and as if I was saving money because they were in my area that day. -Once my husband and I figured out that we (I) had been taken advantage of, we tried to cancel the VERY next day. -It. was. heck.- They said that they were going to come out and remove all of the equipment that they had installed and we did not understand why! We had already paid 140 for the equipment! We just did not want to stay with them. They said, that they needed the equipment for a family that WAS going to be using their services. My husband stood firm and said "No, we have already PAID for the equipment and we are not going to let you guys come in and leave holes in our walls!" They sent a couple of guys all the way down to Texas FROM Utah to dis-install our system after we had said no. Who the heck does that? What kind of make-shift service is that? I felt bad for the poor blokes that made the drive for no good reason! -Long story short, don't trust this company. If they come to your house, just shut the door and walk away. They are 3 shakes away from being crooks if you ask us.
(Added Feb 10/11) If you are looking for poor customer service this is the company for you.  I called on Amp Security on a Friday (the local subcontractor) to have more equipment installed on the following Monday. The tech never showed up.  So I rescheduled for the next Friday. Guardian (Protection Services) called me on Thursday to schedule an apointment to install equipment, it was already scheduled? The rep said they would look in to this and call me back, they never called back.  I called the next day (Friday, when I was supposed to have equip installed) and was informed that a tech could not be there that day. I explained the situation and recieved a very unsincere appoligy, and was offered to schedule an apointment the next week. I have already taken off work two days and now I need to take a third. And to top it off my credit card was billed a week ago.  If I can get out of my contract due to poor service I'm sure someone else would appreciate my business because Guardian does not.
(Added Jan 15/11) Vector (i.e. AMP) solicited my 82 yr old aunt to monitor her system, which had been monitored for years by Brinks with no issue.  The sales person I feel took advantage of an elderly, sick woman living by herself and offered to take over her monitoring contract and added on a few items such as the med alert and another key pad as she was ill and couldnt make it downstairs to the keypad anylonger.  This was all fine, what they didnt disclose was the actual terms of the contract which was a 5 yr contract with 1 yr auto renewal unless notified within 60days.  Who sells a 5 YEAR to a sick 82 year old woman.  Who now has had to sell her home because she is on oxygen and cant move about the multi level home into a small ground fl apartment and soon to possibly a nursing home and guess what - they wont let her out of her contract.  After multiple calls from family they now say she can pay 500.00 to cancel.  This is totally taking advantage of the elderly and completely wrong.  After another call they say if we can fax where the house was sold and a statment fr the Dr. on her medical condition would"see" what else they could do- but no promises as they really dont have to do anything.   Nice company morales here.
(Added Aug 4/10) I would not advise anyone to use this alarm company!!!!!!!!  They are dishonest and only care about making a sale.  My 75 year old grandmother was convinced by a (AMP) salesman to open a contract for security even though she was already in a 60 month contract with APX/Monitronics.  He told her nothing would change and that her current contract would switch over well in a perfect world that would be true.  In a months time she was being charged twice on her bank account one for Vector (i.e. for the monitoring) and the other for APX.  It took for me to make many phone calls to AMP to have her released from the new contract and the customer service rep himself stated the salesman should not have started a new contract with her.  After many faxes, calls, and emails AMP finally cancelled the contract and sent out a technician to remove the equipment.  The sales reps are very agressive.  One actually came to my own home which is monitored by ADT (whom I love by the way) and would not take no for an answer.  I literally had to slam my door in his face to get him to walk off my porch.  My poor grandmother probably said yes just to get rid of him the day he came.  They prey on elderly and naive people who dont know the rules of having a security alarm.
(Added June 2/10) I like Guardian but not AMP.  The sales person sold a dream that fire and police was included and it wasn't. They just tell you things just to get you to sign up, but when my certificate came fire wasn't checked off. So my insurance company only gave me 5% off. Also, make sure you look at the 3 business days to cancel or you will be locked in for 5 years and that is what they leave out.
(Added May 18/10) I, too, got suckered by AMP.  They came to my door and told me they were there to upgrade my present system (their shirt logos said "Honeywell", which is the brand I had).  Once inside, they said my alarm would go directly to the police station instead of a central monitoring company (a lie).  After a high pressure run-around I found myself locked into a new five-year contract.  The worst part is, I don't consider myself a stupid person, but they took advantage of me.  The system works, and Guardian, the monitoring company, has been decent.  But the one time I called the local AMP for a minor service issue I was blown off.  If these people come to your door, don't even talk to them.
(Added July 2/09) I got suckered into "upgrading" my current alarm system with a free, promotional, GSM-based system....(read the whole review)
(Added Dec 20/08) I work for Vector and the AMP dealer was a new company up and coming and was selling system after system without due regard. I have personally worked on the AMP accounts and none of the customers are happy with them. However, they pay us to monitor your account but on the contract end Vector can not legally honor what previous agreement you had with AMP, as we were not there to hear what was said. So don't come down hard on Vector because they won't give you something for free that was promised by a different company.
(Added Aug 9/08) LOVE the customer service and quality of work that this local company has to offer. I have had terrible experiences with 2 large, national companies in the past. AMP Alarms was recommended to me by a friend and I really had nothing to lose by switching my service.  My motion sensor didn't seem to be working so I called and the had a service guy out the SAME day. Turns out it was working but the light had been turned off to save the battery. They didn't even charge me for the service call!  The response time for monitoring is faster than I ever experienced with the other companies and the best part is I pay $10.00/ month less than I did with the big guys! Thanks AMP Alarms.
