Some look at alarm monitoring (in which a central station receives signals from your alarm system, checks the signal's authenticity, and notifies appropriate authorities) as something unneccesary, with the thinking that "The sound of the alarm's siren will scare off any intruders". And "The police can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to get to my home or business, and by then, the intruder will be long gone anyway". Those who have installed their own alarm system are most likely to have this view. So this begs the question(s): Why bother having my home security system monitored? What are the benefits?
