More Home Security Resources On Alarm System Reviews.Com:
Wife and I built a new home in 2007. We had the house pre-wired for an alarm system as it was being built. It came with an alarm box with a dealer's name on it, but we never intended on using that dealer, since their system would use a phone line. (We weren't going to install a POTS line in our home anyway, as we've been lifelong Vonage customers.) So, we saw the $100 off Alarm.com offer for Vonage users that was available at the time and bought it from Alarm.com. They sent us a top-of-the-line GE Concord 4 system (the metal cabinet of which made the old control panel left by the original installers look like a toy), plus added a 2nd keypad and 2 keychain remotes.
We actually got around to having the Alarm.com system installed in 2009! Their customer service dept. gave us the name of a local dealer, and I called and set up an appointment for one evening. Everything took about 3 hours, which included troubleshooting an improperly-placed magnet on a window. The 3 outside doors, 6 rooms of windows, 2 motion sensors and 1 smoke detector are all hardwired. 2 other smoke detectors are wireless, and the entire Alarm.com system works wirelessly. No phone line, no cable lines needed (nope, it's not working through my Vonage system), and everything's working flawlessly. I can walk up to my home and "boop-boop" disarm it with my keychain. I can check the status of the system (or set it/disarm) from any computer or my cell phone. I don't pay extra for any of this... it's what Alarm.com does. The installer (who was the son of the owner) stayed late and showed my wife and I everything about the system until we were satisfied. As I said above, about 30 minutes of this time he spent troubleshooting why windows in one of our rooms were showing "open", until he found out (get this), that the original installers stuck a switch where a magnet should've been on a window frame. Hmmmm... Anyway, he set up the control panels with how I wanted the rooms to be called. I was VERY pleased with everything. I'm the type of person that doesn't care how LONG something takes... I just want it done RIGHT.
My monthly Alarm.com cost is $37.00, which includes monitoring and all the Alarm.com services (texts to my phone, online monitoring, wireless monitoring, X-10 light control, etc., etc.) It's billed quarterly, but I own my system, and there's NO contract whatsoever, at least with my dealer.
Bottom line: Quality equipment that I own, Great customer service, Reasonable fees for all that comes with the system, Peace of mind with wireless monitoring (go ahead, cut our cable line...) we're pleased we chose Alarm.com.
Update:
Our Alarm.com system is still flawless.... no problems whatsoever. I also noticed that the Alarm.com website was updated for their customers, showing additional detail about our individual systems than before, which is nice. Nothing really more to say, since it just... works. My wife and I feel safe with Alarm.com.
