Things everyone should understand about ADT:
ADT cannot guarantee the dispatching of the authorities if your home phone service is disconnected or disabled. HOWEVER, this is thoroughly explained during the initial sales call and again during the installation. ADT does offer a cellular backup as an add on in case of this type of event.
There is a standard 3 year contract that DOES NOT automatically renew. ADT can charge UP TO 75% of the remaining contract if service is cancelled. monitoring rates can increase BUT any customer of ADT can dispute any increase and not have to pay the increase unless their service changes.
ADT does employ independant contractors to install their security systems. ANY POTENTIAL CUSTOMER can always request to only have corporate ADT install their system instead. ADT is not responsible for service of dealer installed systems for the first 90 days after installation. after that initial period, ADT corporate IS responsible for any issues
ADT is required BY LAW to ensure that any burglary signal sent into any of the monitoring centers is not a false alarm before dispatching the police. this is why ADT will call first before dispatching the police. They also have a built in duress code (hostage code) in the event that any customer is forced to disarm thier system. this code automatically dispatches the police. Every new and existing customer is made aware of this code during installation. Fire and medical emergencies however do not require false alarm detection and are automatically dispatched.
ADT will also provide in writing any and all of their policies regarding any of these matters. They are also listed on the reverse of every ADT contract.
