Review For: ADT Security Services (Con't)
This ADT customer review has been submitted anonymously by a present or former ADT burglar alarms client. Please note that ADT uses a sub-dealer program, which usually means that a local company will install and service your alarm, and ADT will monitor it. So a review listed here may not be for or against corporate ADT, but a completely independent local dealer. If you submit a review, please indicate whether the review is regarding ADT corporate, or the local company who installed your system.
NOTE: If you are submitting an ADT alarm review, please specify the local company that installed it, if applicable.
Recent Review For ADT Alarms (con't):
In 1998, we contacted ADT about monitoring an existing hard-wired alarm system within our newly purchased home. A technician came out, upgraded the panel to wireless and installed a wireless smoke detector as we opted to do fire monitoring. A motion sensor was also installed.
The system worked was working fine, until we recently began getting false alarms on one zone. The tech came out several times and could not fix it. So we started bypassing it at night because we knew were going to be getting new windows put in at some point. (figuring we'd have ADT replace the old wired sensors with wireless and correct the issue.)
So as the new double-hung windows were being put in and the old hard-wired sensors were being stripped out, I called ADT about upgrading to wireless sensors. At $75 per window, it was going to be well over $1000. Too much money. I investigated other options and decided to upgrade the system to wireless myself for half the price. (the mark-up on ADT components is amazing) We also went with SafeMart monitoring. Interestingly, ADT let us cancel without offering a discount or anything.
As I was beginning to program the wireless sensors, I discovered that the wireless receiver installed 10 years earlier was not set-up. So, the smoke alarm and motion detector weren't on the system. We had been paying extra for a service that wasn't even properly monitored!
I think it says a lot when you trust a company with your safety and security and they can't bother to install or maintain their equipment properly. I would not recommend ADT to anyone and if you have the technical ability to understand home alarms, there are cheaper alternatives to protect your family and your home.
