If you request a quotation, but don't purchase and refuse to talk to the rep whey they call, don't then get upset that the rep keeps following up on the quote, please see the above and also note that they are doing their job. If you don't want it, tell them in no uncertain terms. believe me, they will appreciate it and move on to something else. If someone tells me nothing or plays other games to get rid of me, It is my job to keep calling forever. I feel that if a client took the time of a rep, it is only common courtesey that they give the rep an explanation of why they did not purchase or a chance for the rep to overcome objections and close the sale when they call.
Pricing: The rep is limited by internal guidelines and profit margins as to how low they can sell their product for, just like all other sales reps. If you want a better price, give them something they can present to their Manager proving a lower price is justified. This is not bad business practice, just commom sense. Most Managers have room to go lower if they have some sort of proof they can use to justify it to their own managers. No one at any reputable business will just take the word without proof that some mystery price was given by some other mystery company, without something to back it up and that is understandable. Why do people feel the need to play poker and not let us know what they really want?? I want to make the sale, if you don't like the product or price, tell me exactly what you are thinging. If I feel you will buy when I meet your concerns, and you do, everyone wins.
Tired old things: No one but the newest of the new sales rep falls for the "I have 4 other people who will buy from you if I get a bargain basement price" approach. Are you hinting that you will reccommend that your friends pay regular retail if you get it wholesale? I have never found this to be true that one person has so much power over others that he or she controls their contract signing ability and that these people want to purchase anything anyway. If you purchase a system, there usually is a referral discount or benefit I can and will give you if others do the same and mention your name. Fish or cut bait!
No Soliciting: How dare you have those signs on your door if you expect your own salespeople to go out and cold call. I ignore these signs if I know that your own people are out trying to sell things the same way I am expected to. Don't hide behind the "mystery corporate" thing either. The few "corporate" sites are mostly chain or nation wide stores, not the Mom and Pop sites. Tell me you don't want it and I will be on my way. Early in my career, I spent time truely looking for who corporate is or was. Most of the time they didn't exist. It usually turned out that local people had the decision making power and were just having a laugh at my expense. Don't waste my time and I will be repsectfull of yours!
If you have a problem, don't call me and scream, thinking I will run right in to my boss and start screaming and threatening him until he bends overbackwards for me. I will not give you every name and number for every Manager in this company. But I will tell you the correct number or person to contact for your service call or billing issue, you have to do that first and I am trying to save you time and get your issue in the hands of the appropriate people as soon as possible. Sales Reps do not have the authority to promise anything regarding service, billing, or installation and I am not going to try to force other managers to do things without you going thru the correct channels. This is a security company, not a deli where you can stand at the counter and scream because they left off the mustard.
Some comments from an ADT employee to help encourage common courtesy between prospective clients and sales reps, at ADT and elsewhere.
If you set up an appointment, be there! ADT does not give a big gas allowance and wasted trips and visits to people who really have no intention of ever buying anything is a pure waste of both the client and the reps time, talents, and money. Unfortunately there are people in this company who set appointments who have quotas too, and set many "appointments" that are not legit, just to fill their own quota numbers. The rep has enough wasted trips to deal with. If you are bored, lonely, and just want to waste someone else's time on something you really don't want to buy, look elsewhere. I always call appointments first to confirm and many people have no idea they even set one and don't have any interest or desire in seeing you anyway.
